Rove had said of Clinton:
“Thirty days in the hospital? And when she reappears, she’s wearing glasses that are only for people who have traumatic brain injury? We need to know what’s up with that.”
Alexander noted that “they have their motivations for raising this topic,” (to which Carney interrupted, “Ya think?”) but asked Carney “Is there something about her health concern – traumatic brain injury or anything – that was communicated to the White House that has not been communicated publicly, or can you right now say…”
Carney cut in. “You’re asking a question based on the assertion of a political… consultant, which is a kind way of putting his job, his medical evaluation.”
“Here’s what I would say about cognitive capacity,” Carney added, “which is that Dr. Rove might have been the last person in America, on election night, to recognize and acknowledge that the President had won reelection, including the state of Ohio, so we’ll leave it at that.”
The White House has, thus far, not responded to our repeated inquiries as to whether Obamacare will cover that burn.

Q: How much more is there to release—and what burden do you feel to get it out there?
Greenwald: We published the first article [about the NSA collecting Verizon phone records] while I was in Hong Kong last June and won't stop until we're done.
I think we will end the big stories in about three months or so [June or July 2014]. I like to think of it as a fireworks show: You want to save your best for last. There's a story that from the beginning I thought would be our biggest, and I'm saving that. The last one is the one where the sky is all covered in spectacular multicolored hues. This will be the finale, a big missing piece. Snowden knows about it and is excited about it.
Afterwards, there'll be more to release—I made a promise to Snowden that we'd get as much of the archive out as possible—but I think the big media splashes will probably be over.

But this is the way the president’s opponents talk. It is rude. It is crude. It is disrespectful and it is downright nuts — but it is not limited to radio talkers. It is the lingua franca of the Republican Party.
I feel about the GOP as I do about the religion of others: I don’t get it. I know feelings can be strong and reason plays little part in it — faith is faith, after all — and this is the way I see the GOP snits about the Internal Revenue Service and, more pertinent, Benghazi. What are these people talking about?
So what is Benghazi? Beats me, I am tempted to say. But I recognize it as a transparent Republican attempt to provide the party’s base with grist for its fantasy mill. Is it possible the Obama administration fudged the nature of the attack, refusing to apply the term “terrorist”? Yes, of course. Did the White House spinmeisters put their hands all over it? Could be. But is any of this so momentous that it has required 13 public hearings and now a select House committee that will delve and delve feverishly — for what?

George Will:
Power is the ability to achieve intended effects. This is not intended to have any effect on the real world. It's a little bit like environmentalism has become. The incandescent light bulb becomes the enemy. Has no effect whatsoever on the planet, but it makes people feel better about themselves.
This noisome little arrogant man, who has been spoon fed events throughout his long life while sitting in the comfort of his chair, is going to lecture the world because they learned about these kidnappings through Twitter?
I'm in no mood to let that slide.

This is my mother, Sandra. She died 33 years ago. This is what she looked like.
When I see these pictures now I see a beautiful woman. But when I was a child I didn't. It didn't matter because she was the center of my life and the root of my existence. But I was vaguely embarrassed by her looks because she didn't look anything like the white bread women - the mothers of my friends - I grew up around after we moved to Southern California when I was six years old.
We were hippies dropped down into an alien world on the fringes of the lapping suburban sprawl of 1970s Los Angeles.
She never wore make up. She didn't shave her legs or her under arms or do any of the other things that signified femininity and undergirded beauty in the world of my early childhood.
Throughout her life she was uncomfortable with her nose. And she had a running dialog with herself about whether she should have it "fixed", which actually would have been totally out of character for her and is probably why she never did. But in a savage irony, when she died, in addition to her fatal injuries, she broke her nose. So it had to be reset for her, fixed, in death.

"This is a crisis that now is not just affecting families that get hurt by it, it's affecting the whole economy," she said.
