Colin Kaepernick hits back at Trump: 'America's never been great for people of color'

NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick said that Donald Trump's suggestion to "find a country that works better for him" is "very ignorant".

“It’s a very ignorant statement that, if you don’t agree with what’s going on, hearing that if you want justice and liberty and freedom for all, then you should leave the country,” Kaepernick said on Tuesday.

“He always says make America great again. Well, America has never been great for people of colour. And that’s something that needs to be addressed. Let’s make America great for the first time,” he said in a video shared by the Bay Area News Group.

A new report suggests immigrants in the country illegally provide local economies billions of dollars in tax revenue.

The study from the Institute on Taxation & Economic Policy found that immigrants in the U.S. without legal permission kick in their billions in the form of income, property, sales or excise taxes.

There were roughly 11 million immigrants estimated to be in the U.S. illegally as of 2013, according to the report. And each and every state collects at least a few million dollars from tax payments made by such immigrants each year, ranging from Montana's $2.2 million to California's $3.2 billion.

"Regardless of the politically contentious nature of immigration reform, the data show undocumented immigrants greatly contribute to our nation's economy, not just in labor but also with tax dollars," Meg Wiehe, the institute's state tax policy director, said in a statement last week.

The New York Times today published a review of a new biography on Adolf Hitler and the twitterverse is snickering over its many thinly-veiled allusions to Donald Trump. Here’s an excerpt:

Hitler was an effective orator and actor, Mr. Ullrich reminds readers, adept at assuming various masks and feeding off the energy of his audiences. Although he concealed his anti-Semitism beneath a “mask of moderation” when trying to win the support of the socially liberal middle classes, he specialized in big, theatrical rallies staged with spectacular elements borrowed from the circus. Here, “Hitler adapted the content of his speeches to suit the tastes of his lower-middle-class, nationalist-conservative, ethnic-chauvinist and anti-Semitic listeners,” Mr. Ullrich writes. He peppered his speeches with coarse phrases and put-downs of hecklers. Even as he fomented chaos by playing to crowds’ fears and resentments, he offered himself as the visionary leader who could restore law and order.

Hitler increasingly presented himself in messianic terms, promising “to lead Germany to a new era of national greatness,” though he was typically vague about his actual plans. He often harked back to a golden age for the country, Mr. Ullrich says, the better “to paint the present day in hues that were all the darker. Everywhere you looked now, there was only decline and decay.”

Hitler’s repertoire of topics, Mr. Ullrich notes, was limited, and reading his speeches in retrospect, “it seems amazing that he attracted larger and larger audiences” with “repeated mantralike phrases” consisting largely of “accusations, vows of revenge and promises for the future.” But Hitler virtually wrote the modern playbook on demagoguery, arguing in “Mein Kampf” that propaganda must appeal to the emotions — not the reasoning powers — of the crowd. Its “purely intellectual level,” Hitler said, “will have to be that of the lowest mental common denominator among the public it is desired to reach.” Because the understanding of the masses “is feeble,” he went on, effective propaganda needed to be boiled down to a few slogans that should be “persistently repeated until the very last individual has come to grasp the idea that has been put forward.”

A touching sentiment from the New York hotel tycoon widely dubbed the "Queen of Mean" but not one shared by a jury of her peers. In 1989 Helmsley received 16 years in prison for a wide variety of tax offenses resulting in several million dollars owed. And in a fitting bit of chronology, the judge ordered her prison sentence to start on April 15 — Tax Day!

Former Va. Sen. John Warner slams Trump during Clinton endorsement

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Former Republican Sen. John Warner endorsed Hillary Clinton on Wednesday, calling her “prepared to be a world leader and the United States president."

The longtime GOP senator cast the choice between Clinton and Donald Trump as a dire one for world security, saying he felt "distressed by some of the comment" made by Trump, though he did not speak Trump's name until the end of his speech, when he said: "Loose lips sink ships. You got that Trump?"

"There comes a time when I have to stand up and assert my own views," Warner said here. "If there’s one thing about candidate Clinton that you’ve got to understand, she throughout her whole life has been prepared, done her homework and studied."

"We have today the strongest military in the world. No one can compare with us," Warner said. "No one should have the audacity to stand up and degrade the purple heart ... or talk about the military being in state of disaster. That's wrong."

Stern asks Trump if he'd stay w-Melania if she were in bad car crash-Trump:"how do the breasts look"

In 2005, Trump was back on Stern's radio show. The conversation ranged toward the juvenile, and at one point Stern asked Trump if he would still love Melania if she were disfigured in a horrible car accident. Trump replied, "How do the breasts look?" Stern said that in this scenario the breasts were not injured, and Trump responded, "Okay, well that's important." He did say he would "stay with her 100 percent." (It was during this interview that Trump said he wouldn't take care of any kids Melania would have; he'd just pay for them.)
