Jim Crow Perception Of Marijuana: “Reefer makes darkies think they’re as good as white men”

Don't Believe The (Marijuana) Hype
What most people think they know about marijuana—especially media columnists—is just years of unscientific, paranoid, and even racist government propaganda.

....................

The truth is that our perceptions of marijuana—and in fact all of our drug laws—are based on early 20th century racism and “science” circa the Jim Crow era. In the early decades of the 20th century, the drug was linked to Mexican immigrants and black jazzmen, who were seen as potentially dangerous.

Harry Anslinger, the first commissioner of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics (an early predecessor of the DEA), was one of the driving forces behind pot prohibition. He pushed it for explicitly racist reasons, saying, “Reefer makes darkies think they’re as good as white men,” and:

“There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the U.S., and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz and swing result from marijuana use. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers and any others.”

The main reason to prohibit marijuana, he said was “its effect on the degenerate races.” (And god forbid women should sleep with entertainers!)

Update: notice the word "test" is in quotes.
This by the engineers and regular staff.
They knew the jam was manufactured. And likely the misdirection of traffic as well.

Ailes Blamed Christie for Romney's Defeat

Ailes Blamed Christie for Romney's Defeat

The Huffington Post got an early copy of The Loudest Voice in the Room notes the book reports Fox News chief Roger Ailes blamed Gov. Chris Christie (R) for Mitt Romney's loss in the 2012 presidential election:

"Around 5 p.m. on Election Day 2012, Fox News chief Roger Ailes realized that Mitt Romney would not make it to the White House. 'Thank you, Chris Christie,' Ailes groused."

"Ailes was frustrated that the New Jersey governor appeared alongside President Barack Obama days earlier to survey the damage of Hurricane Sandy. When Ailes was told polling data suggested the incident hadn't hurt the Republican Party's chances, he responded: 'Well, hugging the guy couldn't help people feel good about Romney, either.'"

Christie taps into something dark in the American political soul –

Christie taps into something dark in the American political soul – a desire not just for order or efficiency, but pleasure in humiliating the weak. Is it surprising women are a frequent target of his abuse, who are pathologized in our society as weak?

Like every bully, Christie crossed the line, or a bridge in his instance. The silver lining is his presidential ambitions may drown in the brewing scandal so the whole nation doesn’t have to suffer him degrading women with blow-job jokes. But others like Christie will follow in his wake until we realize our society does not suffer from a lack of authoritarian bullies but a deficit of grassroots democracy.

ATTN: EVERY BLACK MAN IN MORGANTOWN, WV! Don’t be suspicious, because we are onto your shit.

Scenes From a Post-Racial America
Posted by John Cole

This was actually on page 2A of the Dominion Post, the Morgantown, WV daily (Crazy ass John Raese owns this paper, too- I’m kind of amused he is not running for Senate this time around like he has basically every election since the 80?s. I guess Arch Moore and the establishment Republicans still have some clout over the teatards and cleared the primary for his daughter, Moore-Capito):

This is one of those things that you see, and your jaw just drops and all you can muster is a mental “Are you fucking serious?”

Yo. Bully. F--- You. Yes, you, Governor. And you, too, Governor.

(a delicious Sunday a.m. rant

Yo. Bully. F--- You.
by Crashing Vor
Yes, you, Governor. And you, too, Governor.

My governor, who didn't like members of a state board suing his friends at the oil companies and fired them all. So the other members of the board voted to go ahead with the suit anyway.

And you, too, congressman, who was so pissed off that your effort to keep people from buying health insurance under your own scheme failed that you shut down the government. Then came crawling back and voted for the funding to open it without winning anything.

You, too, senator, who spent years blocking decent, dedicated people from public service, until your colleagues had had enough and took away your power to jam the machinery.

All you bullies. Fuck you.

We've had it with you. And that's something.

See, we seem to be able to put up with a lot of screwing-over. We'll settle for wholly-owned subsidiary excuses for representatives, guys who'll smile as they sell us down the river for their rich friends. We'll re-elect the basest hustlers and horse-traders, the most transparent liars and double-dealers, so long as they bring us our block grants and bridges to nowhere.

But it appears we've finally drawn a line, however thin and faint. We're like the banker and the sutler and the madam in the old Westerns, the last ones to admit that that rustler gang needed cleaning out.

We've revisited that old song about not negotiating with terrorists.

So, if you think all you've got to do to get ahead in this town is flex a little muscle, flash off an off-system email to a guy who can bring down some heat, I advise you to watch coming events in the Garden State.

You'll find even sutlers and madams have their limits.

NJ Mayors: Was Christie Getting Revenge on Me, Too? --- What if Ft. Lee was the tip of the icebeg?

Mayors in New Jersey say they're starting to consider foul play on behalf of the Christie administration in light of the George Washington Bridge lane closure controversy.

..................

In Jersey City, Mayor Steven Fulop recently disclosed that the Christie administration cancelled several meetings — the day after he refused to endorse the Governor.

In Elizabeth, Chris Bollwage, who has been the mayor for 21 years, says his city has gotten payback from Christie after its state legislators opposed several pieces of the Governor's legislation.

“The Governor's retribution was to close down the Division of Motor vehicles here in the city of Elizabeth, which is the fourth largest city in the state of New Jersey,” Bollwage said.

Jack “Kids Should Sweep the Floor” Kingston Eats a Lot of Free Lunches

Jack “Kids Should Sweep the Floor” Kingston Eats a Lot of Free Lunches
Posted on January 10, 2014 at 2:00 pm by JM Ashby
BoehnerKingston

In December prior to the holiday break, Representative Jack Kingston (R-GA) asked are there no workhouses?

KINGSTON: “But one of the things I’ve talked to the secretary of agriculture about: Why don’t you have the kids pay a dime, pay a nickel to instill in them that there is, in fact, no such thing as a free lunch? Or maybe sweep the floor of the cafeteria — and yes, I understand that that would be an administrative problem, and I understand that it would probably lose you money. But think what we would gain as a society in getting people — getting the myth out of their head that there is such a thing as a free lunch.”

Not very many people were amused by Kingston’s remarks, myself included, because there is a such thing as a free lunch and it turns out Jack knows all about that.

Local NBC affiliate WSAV dove into Jack Kingston’s expenses and found that he eats quite a lot of free lunches.

“Kingston and his staff expensed nearly $4200 in meals for business purposes to his congressional office, paid for by the American taxpayer,” WSAV 3?s Dan Kartunen reported. The amount could have purchased nearly 2,000 Georgia school lunches.

WSAV also found that Kingston also racked up $4,289 of free meals paid for by third-party groups like the Georgia Bankers Association and the Congressional Institute. Kingston has also travelled to a handful of continents on congressional business racking up $24,313 in costs. Those expenses include more than just meals. What’s more, Kingston also expensed $145,391 worth of meals for campaign events.

It’s clear that where poor students went wrong was not having a third party, a lobbyist, or their campaign pay for their lunch.
