After Trump's "build the wall speech" again yesterday, Vincente Fox is back

Yesterday Trump went on about how easy it is to build a wall, way easier than a bathroom?? and he said the wall will have beautiful gates!!!

Former Mexican President Vicente Fox Is Back And Is Giving Trump The Smackdown Once Again!

In an election cycle rife with horror and heartbreak, we have to find happiness in the strangest of places, like former Mexican president Vicente Fox.

Fox made headlines earlier this year when he pushed back on Donald Trump’s infamous wall talking-point by declaring that there was no way Mexico would be paying for that “f*cking wall.” Fox said this on live television, by the way.

“It’s incredible that this guy with the crazy hair could be sitting in that chair. And, I mean, talking about building a wall. The wall is built already and Americans paid for it. It has served no purpose at all.

Taos County in New Mexico considering herbicide/pesticide ban

I love NM - so many enlightened people!!

Taos County considers herbicide ban

TAOS — Taos County commissioners discussed a possible ban on herbicides and pesticides last week, citing residents’ complaints about health problems tied to the chemicals.

“The time has come to address this,” said Commissioner Gabe Romero.

When he worked at a local retailer that sold such chemicals some 15 years ago, Romero said, some of the products were so powerful that they were cordoned off in a special area with extra ventilation. “People would buy it by the ton and the gallon,” he said, and then they’d come back complaining of headaches, children getting hives and pets dying. Those chemicals, he said, would “haunt the owner of the store and the employees.”

The commission’s discussion centered on glyphosate, the main active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup and other herbicides. A Taos County ban on the chemical would not be without precedence. Several municipalities in the U.S. have banned glyphosate, most notably Montgomery County, Md., with a population that tops 1 million.

Medical marijuana saved Medicare $165 million in states with medical cannabis

Seniors with Medical Marijuana Access Use Fewer Prescription Drugs

Medicare saved $165 million in states with medical cannabis, study says

(Reuters Health) - Physicians wrote significantly fewer prescriptions for painkillers and other medications for elderly and disabled patients who had legal access to medical marijuana, a new study finds.

In fact, Medicare saved more than $165 million in 2013 on prescription drugs in the District of Columbia and 17 states that allowed cannabis to be used as medicine, researchers calculated. If every state in the nation legalized medical marijuana, the study forecast that the federal program would save more than $468 million a year on pharmaceuticals for disabled Americans and those 65 and older.

No health insurance, including Medicare, will reimburse for the cost of marijuana. Although medical cannabis is legal today in 25 states and the District of Columbia, federal law continues to prohibit its prescription in all circumstances.

Here in NM, medical marijuana sales are skyrocketing. The number of medical marijuana patients tripled since last year - now close to 60,000. Because of record numbers of applications, the Health Dept recently added two doctors to staff because they are so far behind in processing.

NYT - Trump defiant, angry, rambling, manic, hopscotching

In a Defiant, Angry Speech, Donald Trump Defends Image Seen as Anti-Semitic

“ ‘You shouldn’t have taken it down,’ ” Mr. Trump recalled telling one of his campaign workers. “I said, ‘Too bad, you should have left it up.’ I would have rather defended it.”

“That’s just a star,” Mr. Trump said repeatedly.

It was a striking display of self-sabotage from a presumptive presidential nominee and underscored the limitations of Mr. Trump’s scattershot approach during the Republican primaries — not to mention how difficult he often makes it for his campaign team to control him.
Mr. Trump called the news media “dishonest” in the rambling and sometimes manic-sounding address, in which he hopscotched from one topic to another.

The Last Roundup: How the world's best selling pesticide is heading for a fall

Roundup, the herbicide whose active ingredient is glyphosate – currently the most widely sold pesticide in the world – has just been put on life support.

The European Commission, the executive body of the European Union, after months of struggling to decide whether it will keep it, or throw it out from the entire land mass of Europe, has finally decided to give it a year and a half of last-ditch existence, before a potentially final removal from the food we eat. The current brouhaha has hinged on whether the regulators would go with independent scientific evidence of hazards, or go with political and economic expediency which says there cannot be any such hazards, because Monsanto says so.

Riding implicitly on this and any future actions by world leaders, is humanity’s opinion about the safety and effectiveness of all chemical pesticides – the belief that we can chemically kill off the “pests” we don’t want, while having little or no impact on other life forms, including ourselves.

Whatever the Commission decides in 18 months, I believe that one day Roundup/glyphosate will join other egregiously wrong-headed myths, like the harmlessness of cigarettes, or the unbreachable security of all nuclear reactors.

Monsanto's Mommy Bloggers and Clandestine Spies

From Mommy Bloggers to Clandestine Spies, Here's How Monsanto's PR Company Controls the GMO Debate
Big Ag public relations has an image problem of its own. - It's a longish article but worth the read. Some excerpts.

Sen. Bernie Sanders sent out an email to supporters Friday asking them to take action against a Senate bill that would overturn Vermont's recent legislation requiring companies to label products containing genetically modified organisms.

"The corporate interests are at it again," Sanders wrote. "Monsanto, agribusiness and the bio-tech industry have spent hundreds of millions of dollars trying to overturn legislation passed by Vermont, Connecticut, Maine and Alaska that calls for the labeling of GMO food. In fact, they are moving aggressively now because Vermont's strong law goes into effect today."

For many, the most incredible aspect of Big Ag’s push for increased use of GMOs is the fervency with which these companies lobby against bills that would require labels for foods that contain GM ingredients. Industry executives argue that labels scare consumers away from purchasing genetically modified foods. As blogger Ana Picazo told Modern Farmer, “People deserve to know what’s in their foods. It’s called informed consent.”

One of the largest purveyors of pro-GMO literature is the Council for Biotechnology Information, a front group funded by the Big 6 pesticide and GMO corporations: Monsanto, BASF, Bayer, Dow, Dupont and Sygenta. The council hired the PR form Ketchum (which formerly worked on Brown & Williamson’s cigarette campaigns) to create the website GMOAnswers.com, a pro-GMO website that claims to “answer your questions about GMOs” using “independent experts.” As Reuters notes, the council is “committed to spending millions more annually for several more years on this campaign.

Andre Kimball, executive director of the Center for Food Safety, agrees, telling Huffington Post, “We are appalled that our elected officials would support keeping Americans in the dark about what is in our food and even more appalled that they would do it on behalf of Big Chemical and food corporations.”

Monsanto Fingerprints Found All Over Attack On Organic Food

Academics Carry Monsanto’s Message

Academics Review was co-founded by “two independent professors ... on opposite ends of the planet,” Bruce Chassy, Ph.D., professor emeritus at University of Illinois, and David Tribe, Ph.D., senior lecturer at University of Melbourne. They claim the group “only accepts unrestricted donations from non-corporate sources.”

Yet two email exchanges in 2010 reveal plans to find corporate funding for Academics Review while keeping corporate fingerprints hidden.

Monsanto’s motives in attacking the organic industry are obvious: Monsanto’s seeds and chemicals are banned from use in organic farming, and a large part of Monsanto’s messaging is that its products are superior to organics as tools to boost global food production.

Byrne shared an “opportunities” list of targets comprised of people, groups and content critical of GMOs and Monsanto: Vandana Shiva, Andrew Kimbrell, Ronnie Cummins, Sierra Club, Greenpeace, Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy, Michael Pollan’s book “In Defense of Food,” the movies “Food, Inc” and “The World According to Monsanto,” and “topic cross-over on all the risk areas of ag-biotech (out crossing/ contamination, bees, butterflies, human safety, etc...).”
