Kentucky

Let me say up front that I am alive today thanks, in no small measure, to a doctor from Kentucky. Over my lifetime it has been my privilege to know many other wonderful people from that state. All of which makes it so much more puzzling that steaming pile Mitch McConnell and self-certifying ophthalmologist Rand Paul purport to represent Kentucky’s good people in the Senate. Then there’s nasty soul Kim Davis, backed by yowling Deliverance wannabes, all over the airwaves.

Well, in spite of McConnell, Paul, and Davis working overtime to put a stink on the place, we know otherwise. It’s a lovely place with no shortage of beautiful people. Just wanted to take a moment to remember that.

Margaret and Helen, twice!

If you’re Baptist, don’t work in a liquor store. If you’re an idiot, don’t run for County Clerk in Kentucky.

Margaret, here is the thing about religion: Faith is a wonderful thing until it becomes certainty; at which point it becomes fanaticism. If there was only one true religion, fanaticism wouldn’t be all that bad. But there’s the rub, honey. Not only are there many different religions; there are many different versions of each religion. These days religious beliefs are like a backside. Everyone’s got one and often times they stink.

If you’re a Baptist, you probably shouldn’t work at a liquor store or a dance hall. If you’re a Catholic, you probably shouldn’t work at Planned Parenthood or any organization that thinks women should have a voice. And if you’re an idiot, you probably shouldn’t get yourself elected as a County Clerk in Kentucky.

And then-----

What has four marriages, three divorces and two kids out of wedlock? I don’t know but the gays have ruined the sanctity of marriage.

Margaret, I had a hell of a good time watching the news last night. Sending that Davis girl to jail has the GOP madder than a wet hen. Huckabee says that Christianity has now been criminalized in America. That asshat Ted Cruz called it Judicial Tryanny. And Rand Paul warned that local governments might just have to get out of the marriage business. Lord I sure wish the rapture would finally happen so the rest of us could get back to enjoying a world with fewer idiots in it.

Meanwhile, at the pro Kim Davis rally...

On the teevee news -- they just interviewed some of the attendees at the rally in support of the jailed Kentucky clerk. After listening to them the first thought that occurred was, “If I ever feel the need to perpetuate an unfortunate stereotype I know where to go.” Damn, that was just squirmy uncomfortable. I'm still cringing.

Trump's 24/7 campaign ad

Other candidates’ campaign events barely get noticed, but Trump calls repeated “press conferences” and cameras swarm.

Is the media being played, or are they openly campaigning against the eventual Democratic nominee?

Want water? Dig a hole. (per Fiorina campaign)

On MSNBC -- Chris Hayes interviewed someone from the Fiorina campaign, and asked about the candidate's take on climate change. The woman said, in the course of her rather odd response, that the California drought was caused, not by climate change, but by liberals who didn’t build reservoirs.

And here we’d been thinking that lack of precipitation was the culprit.
