The US National Archives: We made a mistake.
https://twitter.com/USNatArchives/status/1218613271927906305We made a mistake.
As the National Archives of the United States, we are and have always been completely committed to preserving our archival holdings, without alteration.
In an elevator lobby promotional display for our current exhibit on the 19th Amendment, we obscured some words on protest signs in a photo of the 2017 Womens March.
This photo is not an archival record held by the @usnatarchives, but one we licensed to use as a promotional graphic. Nonetheless, we were wrong to alter the image.
We have removed the current display and will replace it as soon as possible with one that uses the unaltered image.
We apologize, and will immediately start a thorough review of our exhibit policies and procedures so that this does not happen again.

Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz., who has been absent from the Congress since last week, is in treatmen

Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz., who has been absent from the Congress since last week, is in treatment for alcohol dependence, she announced Wednesday in a written statement.
Kirkpatrick, 69, represents Arizona's 2nd Congressional District based in Tucson, and her announcement comes after a fall last week. She must undergo physical therapy for the fall, she said, but is expected to fully recover.
"I do, however, have another challenge I must face, which was the underlying cause of my fall," she said. "Beginning next week, I will receive treatment that I have struggled to ask for, to treat my alcohol dependence.
"I am finally seeking this help after struggling to do so in the past, and I am ready to admit that I, like countless other Americans, suffer from this disease. Hard work and determination which have brought me success in life have not been enough to win this battle. Other than being a wife, mother, and grandmother, the most important job in the world to me is representing my fellow Arizonans. I know I must get better in order to do my best in each of these roles."

Good luck on your sobriety, Rep. Kirkpatrick (and thank you for speaking out about the issue)!

Days before Europeans warned Iran of nuclear deal violations, Trump secretly threatened to impose 25% tariff on European autos if they didnt
A week before Germany, France and Britain formally accused Iran of breaching the 2015 nuclear deal, the Trump administration issued a private threat to the Europeans that shocked officials in all three countries.
If they refused to call out Tehran and initiate an arcane dispute mechanism in the deal, the United States would impose a 25 percent tariff on European automobiles, the Trump officials warned, according to European officials familiar with the conversations.
Within days, the three countries would formally accuse Iran of violating the deal, triggering a recourse provision that could reimpose United Nations sanctions on Iran and unravel the last remaining vestiges of the Obama-era agreement.
The U.S. effort to coerce European foreign policy through tariffs, a move one European official equated to extortion, represents a new level of hardball tactics with Americas oldest allies, underscoring the extraordinary tumult in the transatlantic relationship.
