Amazon is desperate to seem like a "progressive" workplace despite the evidence ahead of a historic union vote.

Amazon is facing a historic unionization vote at a warehouse in Bessemer, Alabama next week, and the company and its executives have taken to Twitter to plead their case. It’s going about as well as you’d expect.

In response to news that Senator Bernie Sanders will visit Bessemer on Friday to support workers along with Danny Glover and Killer Mike, Amazon CEO of Worldwide Consumer Dave Clark tweeted that he often calls Amazon "the Bernie Sanders of employers, but that's not quite right because we actually deliver a progressive workplace."

Sanders is widely credited with pushing Amazon to pay workers $15 an hour with the Stop BEZOS Act, which would have punished companies with workers relying on government aid programs such as food stamps. This clearly irked Clark, who noted that the minimum wage in Vermont is $11.75 and tweeted, "@Sen Sanders can't even seem to influence his home state….I can assure you while the Senator was one of many voices on this decision to lead on this was ours."

Ignoring the fact that Sanders doesn’t unilaterally control the state of Vermont, the idea that Amazon’s $15 minimum wage makes it a “progressive workplace” is laughable. Amazon's minimum wage policy not only pushes wages down in the sector of warehouse work (which normally pays much more than $15 an hour), it’s also a cudgel for Amazon to strike against unionization efforts as Clark’s tweets demonstrate.

The claim that Amazon is the “Bernie Sanders of employers” is way out of step with everything we know about the company. Clark, for his part, reportedly calls himself “the Sniper” and claims he earned that nickname by “lurking in the shadows of Amazon warehouses and scoping out slackers he could fire,” according to Business Standard.

Petros Kaminiotis, the designer and creator of PlaymoGreek, channels his passion for folk dance and traditional Greek dress into his favorite childhood toys. Having designed elaborate miniature outfits for his Playmobil dolls from a young age, he has now turned his hobby into an effort to bring more awareness, education, and appreciation to Greek folk culture and dress.

“The Greek traditional costumes are of great interest to me because of their wide variety, numerous elements they comprise, and the various techniques that are applied to them,” Kaminiotis tells My Modern Met. “This is what I wish to capture with PlaymoGreek, and this is the reason why I try to give the highest possible detail.”

The process of creating the figurines is a time-consuming one. Kaminiotis starts with intense research into the traditional clothes of various regions of Greece, including the individual variants of styles based on gender, age, and socio-economic status. The avid enthusiast then goes on to create patterns, sew the garments, and outfit the Playmobils. He even adorns them with culturally accurate jewelry and accessories. “On average, more than one week of dawn-to-dusk work is required for the whole process, ” Kaminiotis explains. “My collection is composed of 60 different traditional costumes so far, and their creation has taken approximately six years.”

Tying his own recovery to Detroit's, billionaire Dan Gilbert spoke Thursday on "CBS This Morning" about his comeback from a stroke nearly two years ago — and made an announcement to invest $500 million over the next decade in Detroit.

The first $15 million is earmarked to help cover delinquent property tax in the city, a problem he said contributed to blight, vacancies, and foreclosures.

"We'd like to see the people of Detroit benefit," he said, describing his plan, which he hopes will continue to rebuild the city. "When you're at the energy level of downtown right now, we can carry that to the neighborhoods," which would give the whole city a boost.

The money is expected to pay taxes for about 20,000 homes, with the aim of creating wealth in the city.

Billed as his first major — and exclusive — TV interview, Gilbert and his wife, Jennifer, spoke at their suburban Detroit home to CBS correspondent Dana Jacobson.
