The Clinton Campaign Seems To Think Pennsylvania Is In The Bag

Many Democrats take Pennsylvania for granted because it hasn’t voted Republican in a presidential election since 1988. But in 2012, its margin for President Obama was just 5.4 percentage points, equal to his margin in Colorado and less than his margins in Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada — all states included in early pro-Clinton ad reservations this year. Moreover, unlike those four states, Pennsylvania has trended toward Republicans over time, thanks to its older, whiter and more working-class electorate.

It’s true that Obama didn’t do much advertising in the state in 2012, but then again, neither did Republicans or the Romney campaign.

To be fair, pro-Clinton strategists aren’t simply throwing darts at the map. The Clinton campaign employs a phalanx of pollsters and targeting experts, and aides hint that its sophisticated data analytics contradict recent public polls depicting a very tight contest in Pennsylvania. Asked directly about its lack of an ad buy, the Clinton campaign declined comment except to confirm that it has placed field staff in the state.

Their decision not to spend in Pennsylvania may yet be vindicated, and of course, the state won’t matter if Clinton is headed for a national blowout win. But there is ample publicly available data to suggest Pennsylvania could be problematic for Clinton in a close national contest.

Since November of 2008, Democrats’ voter registration edge in the Keystone State has shrunk from 14.2 percent to 11.1 percent — a pattern that more closely resembles the rightward cultural shift of West Virginia than the leftward migration of New Jersey. In fact, in 60 of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties (save for Philadelphia and six other eastern Pennsylvania counties), the party registration trend over that time has favored Republicans.

So Joe Wilson calling Obama a liar wasn't a "break in decorum"?

Luke Russert is so "concerned" about a breakdown in decorum, six years after Joe Wilson shouted "You Lie" to a sitting president as he addressed Congress and the nation on health care reform. Isn't he a little late to the party?

Clinton to inherit Obama's fundraising list

Hillary Clinton will soon tap into President Obama’s coveted email list, according to party officials.

The long-awaited move, which comes as Clintonites take the reins of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), could inject more money into Clinton’s campaign coffers as she seeks to expand her fundraising advantage over presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.

The Obama list has long been seen as a political gold mine for Democrats. Obama’s campaign raked in around $500 million through email and online donations in the 2012 cycle alone, according to media reports.

Allies of the likely Democratic nominee say having the list will help their ability to connect to Obama’s diverse network of donors, though they were also careful to note that Clinton’s own fundraising network is a strong one.

“The best email list is the one you build yourself,” one Clinton ally said. “But it doesn’t hurt. There’s data they can get from that, ways they can clean it up, there’s stuff that can help fill a void. The more resources that they piece together the better.”

I predict Ryan will use this to get himself nominated in Cleveland

If Ryan rcan walk away from this looking good (even if in his own mind), he will use it get himself named as Trump's replacement. If it goes south, it could be the end of his speakership.

Senate Democrats Bring Food To Support House Colleagues Conducting Sit-In On Gun Laws

As House Democrats conducted a sit-in all day Wednesday to demand legislative action on gun violence, many of their Senate colleagues headed over to the other side of the Capitol to lend their support.

And as the day wore on, they made sure the tired representatives didn’t go hungry.

Rubio skips committee hearing as he enters Florida race

As he was announcing a run for reelection, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) skipped a Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Wednesday morning, Politico reported.

Rubio was not present at a closed hearing on security for military equipment sales abroad, hearing attendees told Politico.

While running for president, the Florida Republican faced frequent criticism for missing votes. Earlier this year on the campaign trail, Rubio defended his attendance record, arguing that “only a president can set the agenda.”

"I have missed votes this year. You know why? Because while as a senator I can help shape the agenda; only a president can set the agenda," Rubio said during an Iowa town hall in January.

After weeks of speculation and mounting pressure from top Senate Republicans to jump back in the race, Rubio decided Wednesday morning to reverse his pledge to retire from the Senate. Rubio said his decision was based on the Senate’s role in reining in executive power.
