Kim Davis Decides She's Actually A Republican

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/kim-davis-republican_560596fbe4b0dd8503077eec?ncid=txtlnkusaolp00000592

WASHINGTON, Sept 25 (Reuters) - A county clerk in Kentucky who was briefly jailed for refusing to issue marriage licenses to gay couples said on Friday that she and her family have switched to the Republican Party because the Democrats no longer represented them.

Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis, 50, who has said her beliefs as an Apostolic Christian prevent her from issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, said they had changed parties last week. She was a long-time Democrat in eastern Kentucky.

"My husband and I had talked about it for quite a while and we came to the conclusion that the Democratic Party left us a long time ago, so why were we hanging on?" she told Reuters in an interview at a hotel in Washington, where she has traveled to be feted at a Family Research Council event later on Friday.

Irving police chief admits: Cops knew Ahmed Mohamed didn’t have a bomb when they arrested him

http://www.rawstory.com/2015/09/irving-police-chief-admits-cops-knew-ahmed-mohamed-didnt-have-a-bomb-when-they-arrested-him/comments/#disqus

Irving Police Chief Larry Boyd refused to say on Thursday that his officers erred in arresting 14-year-old Ahmed Mohamed on Monday even though they allegedly knew he did not bring a bomb to his high school.

MSNBC host Chris Hayes gave Boyd the opportunity to admit to a mistake, while conceding that people understood that officers need to be on high alert regarding possible attacks against a school.

However, Hayes said, “I think it’s hard for folks watching this from the outside, seeing this all link up, seeing this kid — who seems like a tremendously poised, bright, genuine kid — be put through this. To not hear from anyone in officialdom down there that ‘Yeah, we didn’t get this one right.'”

“The officers made the decision they did with the information they had with what they thought was right at the time,” Boyd responded. “We are clearly going to review this. We want to always look at ways we can enhance and have a better outcome. There’s a lot of decision points, there’s a lot of alternatives that they have available to them.”

BUSTED: Lawyer says Kim Davis defied judge’s order and removed her name from marriage license forms

http://www.rawstory.com/2015/09/busted-lawyer-says-kim-davis-defied-judges-order-and-removed-her-name-from-marriage-license-forms/

Rowan County, Kentucky clerk Kim Davis may have compromised marriage licenses for same-sex couples in defiance of a federal judge’s order, the Associated Press reported on Friday.

An attorney for deputy clerk Brian Mason said that Davis “confiscated” the county’s original forms for married couples and replaced them with new forms that deleted her name. The new form also lacks a place for Mason to sign his own name.

“Mr. Mason is concerned because he is in a difficult position that he continues to issue the licenses per the court’s order, which had some remote questionable validity,” the attorney, Richard Hughes wrote in a petition to the court. “But now with these changes may in fact have some substantial questions about validity.”

Attorneys for Davis have argued that by omitting her name on the new form and saying they were issued under the authority of federal District Judge David Bunning, her office could continue to serve same-sex couples while maintaining a “clear conscience” for her.

I hope her ass is in jail by next Monday afternoon.

City To Allow Only Prayers

http://crooksandliars.com/2015/09/city-allow-only-christian-prayer-screw

Knowing that the Supreme Court currently has a conservative slant, those who would turn America into a Christian theocracy have consistently been pressing their luck to see what they can get away with. In 2014, they were able to get five Supreme Court Justices to ignore the separation of church and state by allowing prayer before government meetings, and one city is now pushing even further to allow only Christian prayer.

Separation of Church and State Void in Coolidge AZ

There are seven individuals on the city council of Coolidge, AZ. On Sept. 14, with one of these members absent, the council voted 4-2 to change a resolution that would allow prayer before their council meetings. They didn't change this resolution to restrict prayer and uphold the First Amendment, though. Instead, they voted to allow prayers from only those of the Christian faith.

Kim Davis inspires NC mayoral candidate to jail gays: ‘What’s wrong with eradicating homosexuals?’

http://www.rawstory.com/2015/09/kim-davis-inspires-nc-mayoral-candidate-to-jail-gays-whats-wrong-with-eradicating-homosexuals/

A mayoral candidate in a small Charlotte suburb wants to “eradicate” homosexuality and throw LGBT people in jail, the Kings Mountain Herald reports.

Eugene Holmes, who is running for mayor of Kings Mountain, says he doesn’t want to be mayor, but he’s running because of his anti-gay views. He views Kentucky clerk Kim Davis as something of a role model.

“In my administration I would do just like Mrs. Davis did in Kentucky,” Holmes said. “If you elect me, I’ll uphold the law of the state of North Carolina. I would get the D.A. to swear out a warrant on any man who says he’s gay. Sodomy is a crime, a felony in the state of North Carolina.”

Holmes said he’s a member of the Church of God and also the Promise Keepers, a men’s religious organization.

Oklahoma cop breaks man’s face and charges him with assault for no apparent reason

http://www.rawstory.com/2015/09/oklahoma-cop-breaks-mans-face-and-charges-him-with-assault-for-no-apparent-reason/

An Oklahoma man suffered a broken nose and other injuries — but was charged with assault — when a police officer punched him during an arrest.

Chris Barger said he dropped off a friend at an apartment complex Sept. 7 in Purcell when a police officer approached and shined a flashlight into his car, reported KFOR-TV.

“He begins to shine his light in my car window repeatedly, and after a while, I decided maybe I should get out of the vehicle and ask the officer what the problem is,” Barger said.

Barger got out of the car with one hand in his pocket, and a witness said the officer charged him and began punching.

Should a Nobel laureate be required to take the SATs?

http://news.yahoo.com/nobel-laureate-required-sats-194834463.html

Even the world’s youngest Nobel laureate needs to ace her SATs if she wants to get into Stanford.

Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani teen who won the Nobel Peace Prize after standing up for girls’ education against the Taliban, is preparing to go to college. She has named Stanford one of her top choices, but the university will require her to submit her SAT scores, CBS News reported, before she can compete with more than 40,000 other applicants for the 2,000 or so first-year spots.

The requirement has once more highlighted the paramount role of standardized testing in the US educational system – though some universities no longer require score submissions from college applicants, as The Christian Science Monitor's Beatrice Gitau reported in July.

Maybe it is wrong to think this but perhaps --when it comes to Malala-- Any college or University should be honored to have her as a student.

What will future generations think of our selfie culture?

Some friend, my wife and I were out a few weeks ago and we just happen to notice how many selfies had been taken at the restaurant as well as how many of just our own table updated facebook/twitter/reddit account updated during the course of the evening post location, meal orders, like and dislike of the meal.

My wife who really isn't into all this. She does have a facebook account but it is set so only certain family and friend can see the account. She does read certain twitter accounts on her computer but she isn't that much into it and she quietly wonder at the table?

"How narcissistic will future generations find this era?"

This spurred a debate that I bring here.

NYC arrest video shows ex-tennis pro being thrown to ground

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/claims-force-dog-officer-ex-tennis-pros-nyc-163233973--spt.html#

NEW YORK (AP) — Video surveillance released Friday of the mistaken arrest of former tennis star James Blake shows a plainclothes police officer who has a history of excessive-force complaints grabbing Blake by the arm and tackling him to the ground.

Officer James Frascatore's rough arrest of the hometown favorite outside a midtown Manhattan hotel on Wednesday prompted apologies from New York City's mayor and police commissioner.

Frascatore was the subject of four civilian complaints in a seven-month period of 2013, and he has been named in two federal civil rights lawsuits as being among a group of officers accused of beating, pepper spraying and falsely arresting two Queens men in separate incidents that year.
