GOP Lawmaker Says Emergency Rooms Should Be Able To Turn People Away

Back to the good old days.

By Amanda Terkel

Rep. Diane Black (R-Tenn.) proposed on Friday that hospital emergency rooms should be able to turn patients away to help keep health care costs down.

“I’m an emergency room nurse,” Black told MSNBC host Chuck Todd on Friday. “There are people that came into my emergency room that I, the nurse, was the first one to see them. I could have sent them to a walk-in clinic or their doctor the next day, but because of a law that Congress put into place to say, no, I have to treat everybody that walks into that emergency room.”

“You took away our ability to say, ‘No, an emergency room is not the proper place.’ And then, you put a burden on top of that to say, ‘You must do that,’” added the congresswoman, who is also running for governor of Tennessee.

A grieving military father says Trump offered him $25,000 after his son was killed and didn't follow

Peter Jacobs-Business Insider

A grieving military father told The Washington Post that President Donald Trump offered him $25,000 after his son was killed, but said the president didn't follow through.

Chris Baldridge's son, Army Cpl. Dillon Baldridge, was killed in June during a suspected insider attack by an Afghan police officer.

During a call with the president, The Post reports, Trump offered to write Baldridge a personal check of $25,000 and said he would work to establish an online fundraiser for the family. Neither has yet happened, Baldridge said.

"I could not believe he was saying that, and I wish I had it recorded because the man did say this," Baldridge said. "He said, 'No other president has ever done something like this,' but he said, 'I'm going to do it.'"

A White House spokeswoman told The Post that the check has now been sent.

Billionaire Democratic donor Tom Steyer demands pledge to impeach Trump

Billionaire megadonor Tom Steyer wrote a letter to Democrats on Wednesday asking that if they take control of congress in 2018, that they impeach President Trump.

The New York Times says says that in his letter, Steyer calls Trump a "clear and present danger to the republic."

He went on to say "I hope you will make your position clear so that Democratic voters who are under constant attack by this administration, know their elected representatives have the patriotism and political courage to stand up and take action."

There has even been some speculation about Steyer -- who has spent over $91 million in support of Democrats in the last election cycle -- running against Democratic California Senator Dianne Feinstein.

Feinstein is seeking re-election next year but stunned a lot of Democrats after saying that Trump had an opportunity to be a good president.

Steyer is not someone Democrats can ignore -- according to the Times, he is the single biggest liberal donor in the last two federal elections.

A woman who said President Trump groped her a decade ago subpoenaed him for all documents from his campaign about every woman who has accused him of sexually inappropriate behavior.

Summer Zervos, a former contestant on "The Apprentice," filed the subpoena in March as part of her defamation suit against Trump for saying she and other accusers were lying. The subpoena did not appear in court files until last month, and BuzzFeed News first reported on its filing.

Zervos’ attorneys ordered Trump’s campaign to turn over “all documents” relating to Zeros and nearly a dozen other women who have accused Trump of unwanted sexual advances and touching. Some of the women first spoke out in the final weeks of the presidential campaign last year, after a leaked “Access Hollywood” tape from 2005 showed Trump bragging about grabbing women’s genitals.

The subpoena also asks for all campaign documents related to the tape and to Trump’s many subsequent denials of the accusations that followed.

In tweets and public statements last October, Trump said all of the women were pushing “false allegations and outright lies” to help elect his Democratic challenger, Hillary Clinton. He also suggested some of the women were not attractive enough for him to target.

All of these liars will be sued after the election is over,” he said at a Gettysburg, Pa., rally weeks before the election.

Trump’s attorneys have been trying to get the suit dismissed or delayed until he is out of office. They also tried to shoot down the subpoena, calling it too “far reaching” and saying it targeted “wholly irrelevant information intended solely to harass the president.”

Trump’s legal team must respond to the subpoena by Oct. 31. Trump and the White House did not comment on the filing.

Zervos has accused Trump of kissing and grabbing her in a Beverly Hills hotel in 2007 while they discussed a possible position for her at the Trump Organization. Her legal team includes the famous women's rights lawyer Glorida Allred.

The new F-word: Why are we still afraid to call Trump a fascist?

CHAUNCEY DEVEGA
10.13.2017•4:59 AM

Donald Trump is a fascist and a racial authoritarian. For several years, I have tried to warn the readers of my essays here at Salon and those who listen to my podcast of this fact. Trump has revealed his core values to the world at almost every opportunity. Yet somehow, too many Americans appear stuck on a treadmill of daily shock at his behavior. It is sad to watch. Why is any of this a surprise? Trump is a crude man. He has never been subtle in terms of sharing his values and beliefs.

For example, Trump signaled his presidential aspirations by accusing Barack Obama of being a black usurper born secretly in another country. Perhaps even more insulting to Barack Obama -- and by implication to Black America -- Trump even dared to suggest that the first black president of the United States was a fraud whose accomplishments and intelligence were the result of imagined unfair advantages somehow (against all empirical evidence to the contrary) granted to black people in the United States. In essence Donald Trump told a black man in the 21st century to "show me your papers," as though the latter were a slave and Trump a paddyroller on some dusty road in the antebellum South during the early 19th century.

During the 2016 campaign and now as president, Donald Trump has met almost every criteria of a fascist leader adapted to fit American society.

He has contempt for democratic norms and procedures, and has repeated undermined them;
He has threatened violence against his political enemies;
He espouses militant nationalism;
He is patriarchal, hyper-masculine and misogynist;
He uses racism, ethnocentrism and bigotry to advance his political goals;
He lies compulsively in order to twist reality to his will and keep supporters enthralled;
He stokes a sense of racial grievance and victimhood among his voters;
He acts with contempt and utter disregard for the law;
He uses his position as president to personally enrich himself, his family and his political allies;
He openly admires authoritarian leaders from other countries;
Through voter purges and other means, he is trying to ensure a permanent Republican majority and de facto one-party state;
He believes in "blood and soil" racism;
He is trying to remove any regulations or other types of restrictions on corporations;
He appears to be a malignant narcissist who believes he is above the law;
He grants pardons to his political allies;
He has utter contempt for freedom of the press and the concept of "checks and balances";
He views intellectuals and artists as his enemies;
He is trying to destroy labor unions;
He encourages police and other paramilitary forces to abuse racial and ethnic minorities;
He has been acclaimed by white supremacist and other right-wing fascist groups as their leader.
