White flags planted on Brooklyn Bridge, American flags missing as mystery deepens

Two high-flying American flags were surreptitiously swiped from atop the Brooklyn Bridge and mysteriously replaced early Tuesday with a pair of white banners, police said.

The substitute flags were flying by sunrise from atop the 273-foot towers on the venerable bridge despite round-the-clock NYPD security on the span.

What remained unclear hours later: who was responsible, what happened to the missing American flags — and how the thieves scaled the towers without drawing any attention.

“There’s no particular nexus to terrorism or politics,” said John Miller, the NYPD’s anti-terrorism czar. “It might be some kind of art project or statement. But we are not sure what that statement is.”

More than five years after leaving office, former US Vice President Dick Cheney sees the world in bad shape, especially the Middle East, and he blames President Obama (again) for most of it.Crises in Syria, Iraq, Israel and the Palestinian territories, Ukraine and elsewhere, nuclear capabilities of Iran soon, rapid spread of terrorism: “I don’t like what I see happening”, Cheney said at a lunch hosted by Politico Magazine at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington on Monday.

For Cheney, Obama with his lackluster leadership is the prime suspect responsible for this mess. “He has created a situation in which our friends in the region are scared to death”, Cheney said, quoting Israeli and Arab “friends I have known for 25 years.”Protesters disrupted the on-stage event, shouting that Cheney needed to be held accountable for the war in Iraq.“Dick Cheney — war criminal!” one woman shouted, holding a pink sign and handcuffs. The moderator tried to move on, but the woman continued shouting. “You destroyed Iraq, you’ll destroy this country!” and “Dick Cheney should be arrested!”

42% of Americans Identify as Independents Republican identification lowest in at least 25 years

PRINCETON, NJ -- Forty-two percent of Americans, on average, identified as political independents in 2013, the highest Gallup has measured since it began conducting interviews by telephone 25 years ago. Meanwhile, Republican identification fell to 25%, the lowest over that time span. At 31%, Democratic identification is unchanged from the last four years but down from 36% in 2008.

Americans' increasing shift to independent status has come more at the expense of the Republican Party than the Democratic Party. Republican identification peaked at 34% in 2004, the year George W. Bush won a second term in office. Since then, it has fallen nine percentage points, with most of that decline coming during Bush's troubled second term. When he left office, Republican identification was down to 28%. It has declined or stagnated since then, improving only slightly to 29% in 2010, the year Republicans "shellacked" Democrats in the midterm elections.

Democratic identification has also declined in recent years, falling five points from its recent high of 36% in 2008, the year President Barack Obama was elected. The current 31% of Americans identifying as Democrats matches the lowest annual average in the last 25 years.

Rep. Lou Barletta (R-PA) is one of several members of Congress who are crying “disease” in response to the unaccompanied migrant crisis. “Reports of illegal immigrants carrying deadly diseases such as swine flu, dengue fever, Ebola virus and tuberculosis are particularly concerning,” Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-GA) wrote in a letter addressed to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Monday. “Many of the children who are coming across the border also lack basic vaccinations such as those to prevent chicken pox or measles. This makes Americans who are not vaccinated — and especially young children and the elderly — particularly susceptible.”


The CDC -Center for Disease Control never reported that the Ebola virus was ever in Central America. Stop fucking fear mongering. But I bet it will work cause the stupids will cause a panic among the other stupids
