A concise guide to GOP speak for the progressive reader

There are certain terms that GOP voters and politicians use that can be confusing to a sane voter. In the interest of clarity, the following guide is offered.

When the GOP says: "this is the truth", it is a lie.

When the GOP says: "this is a lie", it is the truth.

When the GOP says: "a tax cut for everyone", it is a tax increase for workers and a tax cut for the rich.

When the GOP says: "freedom", they mean freedom for the rich to exploit you.

When the GOP says: "liberty", it means liberty of the rich to enslave you.

When the GOP says: "fair elections", it means cheating to ensure a GOP victory.

When the GOP says: "ballot integrity", it means throwing out the votes for the Democrat.

When the GOP says: "voter fraud", it means non-whites and non-racists are voting.

When the GOP says: "right to work", it means the right of the bosses to exploit the workers.

When the GOP says: "mandate for change", it means the GOP won.

When the GOP says: "need for bipartisanship", it means that the Democrats won.

When the GOP says: "fake news", it means that the media is telling the truth.

When the GOP says: "political correctness", it means you are calling a racist a racist.

When the GOP says: "liberal media", it means any media outlet that reports the truth.

When the GOP says: "job creator", that is another term for a plantation owner.

Feel free to add other definitions.

A lot of white evangelical voters aren't evangelicals

From the article:

According to the exit polls, 26 percent of the electorate in last week’s midterms consisted of white evangelicals. Yet white evangelicals make up just 15.3 percent of the U.S. adult population, according to PRRI’s widely used survey data. What gives?....

All in all, there’s no reason to think that this situation has changed since 2008. By my back-of-the-envelope calculation, one-third of the “white evangelicals” who voted last week were not evangelicals in the denominational sense. And that covers most of the gap between PRRI’s number of white evangelicals and the exit polls’.

We label ourselves as a means of establishing an identity, and others label us as a way of grouping people, but what does a label really tell us about an individual?

Inside the #MeToo revolt at Google (x-posted from Omaha Steve's labor Group)

From the article:

THE NOVEMBER 1 walkout by 20,000 Google employees at some 50 offices around the world may be the largest international action of its kind in modern labor history — and it shined a spotlight on the potential for tech workers to stand up for justice for themselves and their co-workers.
The immediate cause of the walkout — which involved more than 20 percent of Google’s nearly 95,000 workers worldwide — was the revelation of Google’s cover-up of sexual misconduct by Andy Rubin, a former top executive and the creator of the Android operating system.

The problem:
at Google, and in the various states where newly awakened workers are flexing their muscles are all signs that workers at every level are finally realizing that the Boss is only concerned with increasing his share of the profit.

The solution:

Unions are the answer because unions are the main ay that workers can exercise their power collectively.

When it comes to religious belief, or lack of, name calling is not dialogue.

It is simply name calling.

And if one claims to be interested in actual dialogue, name calling is one way to shut down dialogue.

It is that simple. If you argument requires insults, it is not dialogue, it is attack speech.

How One Ottoman Reconciled Islamic Teachings with Darwin's Theory of Evolution

From the article:

In 1913, Abdullah Cevdet, a prominent Ottoman materialist and science popularizer, wrote an essay in his controversial magazine İctihad, in response to the arrest of three teachers for teaching Darwinian evolution in a Turkish city.
“Any country” Cevdet warned, “where commenting on the laws of evolution or speaking about Darwinism is perceived to be blasphemous has not emerged from the Middle Ages. And [those belonging to] the Middle Ages have no right to exist in the twentieth century.” For secular Ottomans of that time, Darwinism was more than a biological theory. It was a symbol, a theory exploited to pursue political and social goals.
For some Ottoman conservatives, however, Darwinism was an attack launched against Islam and traditional values.

Notre Dame students cite faith as they kneel during national anthem to protest racism

From the article:

Dozens of students at the University of Notre Dame took a knee during the playing of the national anthem at the Catholic school’s football game in South Bend, Ind., this weekend, saying their faith compels them to protest racism.
As “The Star-Spangled Banner” blared before Notre Dame’s last home game of the season on Saturday (Nov. 10), students in six rows of the school’s football stadium suddenly knelt in unison, joining a movement to protest racism and police brutality that has caused controversy for the past two years across professional and scholastic sports contests. Organizers said they estimated around 90 students participated, although the school newspaper reported at least 60.

If the GOP had kept the House, the media narrative would have been that the Democrats.....

If the GOP had kept the House, the media narrative would have been that the Democrats moved too far to the left.

But the voters are moving left, and the success of the Democrats shows that. In spite of all of the GOP cheating, the GOP lost hugely in the House, and all over the country.

Wherever the elections were fair, the GOP lost.

Consider that one. The GOP can only win when they cheat.

And now that the Democrats did win, the media will never say that the GOP lost because the GOP is the all but official party of fascism and oligarchy.

Which Trump voters should the Democrats reach out to?

Alex Witt just asked Congressperson Debbie Dingell how Democrats can reach out to Trump voters.

If I were a guest, I would ask Alex Witt the obvious question, which is, exactly which Trump voters should we reach out to?

Should we reach out to the actual Nazis?
Should we reach out to the Proud Boys?
Should we reach out to the KKK members?

Should we reach out to the Kris Kobachs, and the Brian Kemps who do everything they can to to prevent non-white voters from actually voting?

Should we reach out to the Paul Ryans, and the Mitch McConnells who ignore Trump's brutal racism as long as Trump serves as the useful idiot while the GOP remakes America into a plantation economy?

When the GOP wins, the media calls it a mandate for change.

When the Democrats win, the media counsels bi-partisanship.

And that is the essence of how the US conservative media handles politics.

When Bush Jr. stole the 2000 election, all we read in the corporate media was talk of his mandate, and how much the GOP could do.

When Obama actually won his election, twice in fact, all we read in the corporate media was advice that Obama and the Democrats should reach out to the GOP and move to the center.

And this center that the media refers to is actually moving steadily rightward, even as the US population moves in a progressive direction.

It is this steady progressive movement of the electorate that compels the GOP to cheat, to suppress votes, and to do everything that they can to limit voting to racists and billionaires.
