Looking at the many pictures from Charlottesville, it is amazing how many Confederate

flags there are mixed in with the many Nazi flags and combination flags combining Nazi and US symbols.

Considering that your civil war ended 150 years ago, it seems that in some areas, mainly southern, that news is not common knowledge.

And the heavy presence of Nazi imagery is very troubling. When did anti-Semitic genocide and master race philosophy become a favored philosophy of the American far right?

Edited to add:

Here is the reference

https://www.democraticunderground.com/10029450148

The second picture is of a number of people with various signs and clothing.

One of the signs accuses Jews of being children of Satan. So the Nazi imagery is horribly fitting in light of this sign. Perhaps it is the only such sign, one hopes, but possibly not.

Chelsea Manning's uncompromising fight

From the article:

From 2007 to 2009, Manning, an intelligence analyst for the U.S. military, had access to tens of thousands of documents that detailed the nature of the U.S. wars of occupation in Afghanistan and Iraq. As she trawled through video, statistics and data, she had a revelation:
Once you come to realize that the coordinates in these records represent real places, that the dates are our recent history and that the numbers represent actual human lives--with all of the love, hope, dreams, hate, fear and nightmares with which we all live--then you cannot help but be reminded just how important it is for us to understand and, hopefully, prevent such tragedies in the future.

Wall Street Thieves Find New Ways to Steal From Us

From the article:

In 2007, their stupid schemes and frauds crashed our economy, destroying middle-class jobs, wealth and opportunities. Far from getting punishment, however, these financial scofflaws were bailed out by their Washington enablers — so the moral lesson they learned was clear: Stupid pays!

Good news: Trumps evangelical support is slipping

From the article:

However, the major religious shift in his approval ratings has occurred among non-evangelical Christians, Protestant and Catholic. In March, they approved of Trump’s performance 58 percent to 40 percent. Now, they disapprove of it 56 percent to 40 percent.

With all the allegations of Russian interference,

and until conclusively proven they actually are just allegations, why overlook or minimize what to me are the obvious reasons that Clinton narrowly lost?

GOP directed voter suppression and an apathetic electorate.

The evidence for the first is abundant, from the court decision that talked of non-white voters being targeted with surgical precision, to the coincidence that after part of the VRA was gutted by the Robert's SCOTUS, many GOP controlled states immediately pursued policies to suppress likely Democratic voters.

The evidence for the second is the uncomfortable fact that approximately 44% of registered voters did not go to the polls. Some of that is likely due to the suppression, but some is not.

So rather than endless debate about
A) who is a real Democrat, and
B) who has what initial behind their names, and
C) what media talking head works for what network,

would it not be more productive to focus on the real problems of suppression and apathy?

On the illogic of linking media figures with their sponsoring networks.

A number of posts, and posters, are focusing on certain liberal media personalities and attempting to make suggestions that the very fact that any particular personality appears on any particular outlet somehow represents a validation of the network and a validation the networks presumed message and/or bias.

For example, if Thomm Hartmann appears on RT, that is seen or suggested as evidence of a bias toward whatever the network might represent. The “birds of a feather” argument in effect.

By this “birds of a feather” logic of inferring influence or philosophical agreement by proximity, any media figure who works for a large organization must also be influenced by that corporation, no?

Is Rachel Maddow then influenced by the corporate owners of MSNBC, in this case Comcast, Microsoft and General Electric? And by the same type of logic, General Electric is a war industry contractor. Does this lead us to infer, or suggest, that Maddow is influenced in her reporting by these connections? Is Maddow, under this logic, an apologist for the war industry?

And if any liberal writer also has a story picked up by FOX, is that too evidence or suggestion of a weakness on the part of the writer? If a liberal commentator or pundit appears on a conservative network, and all of the major networks are owned by conservatives, is that liberal commenter also somehow tainted by association?

My view, and I suspect the view of most here, is that these media personalities appear wherever there is an opportunity. And given that 6 large corporations control approximately 90% of the media outlets, unless or until a liberal media outlet is created, it is better to have some few people representing, reporting on, and advocating for a liberal viewpoint in contrast to the tidal wave of far right reporting that washes over the country.

Liberals often complain that the liberal message is given very little air time. Why would we wish to attack the few outlets and the few personalities that do present another viewpoint?

Why Are There No New Major Religions?

From the article:

Speaking here of Millah Abraham, a new movement in Indonesia,

“Often cults are seen as aberrations, or a psychological phenomenon. Psychologists would see cult leaders as having delusions of grandeur. But I see them as something different—as baby religions,” said Susan Palmer, a sociologist and scholar of new religions at Concordia University in Montreal. “I think people are unaware how many of them there are, how constant they are.”

And like many other new religious movements, Millah Abraham is dreaming big, with hopes to supersede Christianity and Islam as the dominant Abrahamic faith. Millah Abraham’s followers believe that every Abrahamic faith, from Judaism onward, is fated to lose its way, becoming corrupt and power-hungry, until eventually it is succeeded by a new prophet who will restore the original Abrahamic relationship to God.

The real reason that the FBI raided Paul Manafort's house.

Liberals will of course assume that Paul Manafort is under suspicion for the 1000 or so coincidental and accidental meetings with Russian operatives that took place during the Trump campaign. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

The FBI raided Manafort's house under orders from the deep state. The reason is simple.

Manafort had amassed documentation proving conclusively that Barack Obama was in fact born in Kenya of Muslim parents.

Manafort had also received proof that Obama and Clinton personally directed the bloody massacre of Christians at Bowling Green. Manafort found this documentation in the basement of the pizza restaurant where Clinton was running the child sex ring.

The liberal media, of course, will continue the cover-up of these high crimes and misdemeanors.

Edited to add: I just received news that a person of interest was found living in Manafort's basement. It was, of course, Osama bin Laden, who never actually died.

Thanks Obama.

These mechanics want to fix past concessions

From the article:

SOME 1,700 auto mechanics in Chicago put down their tools and picked up picket signs this past week, effectively shutting down service at around 130 new car dealerships........

The local took concessions in contracts following the 2007-08 economic crisis, when new car sales took a nosedive from 16 million annually in 2006 to less than 10 million by 2009.......

The companies that were bailed out have all since become profitable again, hiring thousands of workers. Meanwhile, in the same time period, the union's contracts gave concessions to dealerships around health care and wages, and workers' wages have effectively decreased.
The more than $12 billion transferred to the auto companies and their subsidiaries include federal tax dollars paid from auto repair mechanics, whose wages and living standards suffered as a result of a financial crisis they had no hand in creating. This is another example of the truth of a popular Occupy Wall Street slogan: "The banks got bailed out; we got sold out."
