We can run, but we can't hide from it (Grateful Dead)

Never meant more than it does today. From the Dead's later years.

We don't own this place, though we act as if we did,
It's a loan from the children of our children's kids.
The actual owners haven't even been born yet.

Bur we never tend the garden and rarely we pay the rent,
Some of it is broken and the rest of it is bent
Put it all on plastic and I wonder where we'll be when the bills hit.

We can run,
But we can't hide from it.
Of all possible worlds,
We only got one:
We gotta ride on it.
Whatever we've done,
We'll never get far from what we leave behind,
Baby, we can run, run, run, but we can't hide.
Oh no, we can't hide.

I'm dumpin' my trash in your back yard
Makin' certain you don't notice really isn't so hard
You're so busy with your guns and all of your excuses to use them.

Well, it's oil for the rich and babies for the poor,
We got everyone believin' that more is more,
If a reckoning comes, maybe we will know what to do then.

All these complications seem to leave no choice,
I heard the tongues of billion speak with just one voice,
Saying, "just leave all the rest to me,
I need it worse than you, you see."
And then I heard,
The sound of one child crying.

Today I went walking in the amber wind,
There's a hole in the sky where the light pours in
I remembered the days when I wasn't afraid of the sunshine.

But now it beats down on the asphalt land
Like a hammering blow from god's left hand
What little still grows cringes in the shade like a bad vine.

Iknow why poor whites chant "Trump, Trump, Trump"...

Interesting article. Even though i am a poor white male who could never voye for Trump, i certainly know my share of poor white males that did, and are proud of it.

From the era of slavery to the rise of Donald Trump, wealthy elites have relied on the loyalty of poor whites. All Americans deserve better.

I’m just a poor white trash motherfucker. No one cares about me.

I
met the man who said those words while working as a bartender in the Ozark Mountains of northwest Arkansas. It was a one-street town in Benton County. It had a beauty parlor, a gas station, and a bar where locals came on Friday nights to shoot the shit over cheap drinks and country music. I arrived in Arkansas by way of another little town in Louisiana, where all but a few local businesses had boarded up when Walmart moved in. In Arkansas, I was struggling to survive. I served drinks in the middle of the afternoon to people described as America’s “white underclass” — in other words, people just like me.

Al Franken in 2020?

Did You Hear The One About Al Franken in 2020?
“Aaah … no,” Franken said when I asked if he’d “ever run for president.” But in the Age of Trump, there’s a certain logic to the idea.
By Howard Fineman

WASHINGTON ― Al Franken and I have been friends for 30 years, so I got right to the point.

“Will you ever run for president?” I demanded to know in an interview with the 66-year-old Minnesota Democratic senator this week.

Welcome to 'Kushnerville', USA

The Beleaguered Tenants of ‘Kushnerville’

Tenants in more than a dozen Baltimore-area rental complexes complain about a property owner who they say leaves their homes in disrepair, humiliates late-paying renters and often sues them when they try to move out. Few of them know that their landlord is the president’s son-in-law.

Some great advice when talking about 45, Republicans

The daughter of Martin Luther King & Coretta Scott King posted this on Facebook past night:
Some Wise Advice Circulating:
1. Don't use his name; EVER (45 will do)
2. Remember this is a regime and 45's not acting alone;
3. Do not argue with those who support him--it doesn't work;
4. Focus on his policies, not his orange-ness and mental state;
5. Keep your message positive; THEY want the country to be angry and fearful because this is the soil from which their darkest policies will grow;
6. No more helpless/hopeless talk;
7. Support artists and the arts;
8. Be careful not to spread fake news. Check it;
9. Take care of yourselves; and
10. Resist!
Keep demonstrations peaceful. In the words of John Lennon, "When it gets down to having to use violence, then you are playing the system’s game. The establishment will irritate you - pull your beard, flick your face - to make you fight! Because once they’ve got you violent, then they know how to handle you. The only thing they don’t know how to handle is non-violence and humor."
When you post or talk about 45, don't assign his actions to him, assign them to "The Republican Administration," or "The Republicans."
This will have several effects: the Republican legislators will either have to take responsibility for their association with 45 or stand up for what some of them don't like; 45 will not get the focus of attention he craves; Republican representatives will become very concerned about THEIR re-elections.

Happy Bicycle Day everyone!

Tripping in LSD's Birthplace: A Story for "Bicycle Day"
After consuming magic mushrooms in Basel, Switzerland, I ran into Albert Hofmann, the chemist who catalyzed the psychedelic era.
By John Horgan on April 19, 2014 7

Exactly 71 years ago, April 19, 1943, Albert Hofmann, a chemist for Sandoz, in Basel, Switzerland, ingested a minute amount—just 250 micrograms--of a compound derived from the ergot fungus. He soon felt so disoriented that he rode his bicycle home, where he experienced all the heavenly and hellish effects of lysergic acid diethylamide.

Albert Hofmann first experienced LSD's full effects while riding a bicycle in Basel, Switzerland, on April 19, 1943, as commemorated in this blotter-acid art.
Psychedelic enthusiasts now commemorate Hofmann's discovery of LSD's effects every April 19, a.k.a. "Bicycle Day. " To celebrate this Bicycle Day, I'd like to describe one of the strangest trips of my life, which took place in Basel and involved (sort of) Hofmann.
In 1999, while, researching a book on mysticism, I flew to Basel to attend “Worlds of Consciousness,” a leading forum for scientists studying altered states, especially drug-induced states. The meeting, held in a convention center within walking distance of my hotel, offered two divergent perspectives of hallucinogens. In the convention center’s lobby, vendors peddled visionary books, music and art, including drawings, by Swiss surrealist H.R. Giger, of pouty-lipped, warhead-breasted, cybernetic vixens transmogrified by titanic psychic forces.
