BernieforPres2016's JournalBernie predicts wins on Tuesday in St. Louis speech
In the first 3 minutes of his speech:
"And if you keep it a secret, and not tell those guys over there (gesturing toward the media), I think we're going to win a lot of states on Tuesday."
With regard to Illinois and other state polls
Why do we still pay attention to them after Michigan, particularly in any state with open primaries?
In Michigan, Bernie won 71-28 among independents and Hillary won 57-41 with Democrats. Bernie has been winning by huge margins among under 30 voters and Hillary has been winning by huge margins among African Americans, but only a little over 2:1 in Michigan versus 5:1 and greater in the deep South.
So unless a pollster can predict voter turnout, or at least the percentage of voters that will fall into each of these groups that go heavily toward one candidate or the other, how can they possibly produce an accurate poll?
Bernie was on This Week (ABC) this morning. He said that if voter turnout was large, he expects to do very well on Tuesday in Illinois, Ohio, Missouri and North Carolina. He said Florida will be a tougher state. Florida is a closed primary and no independents is bad for Bernie. And it skews old, which is a Hillary demographic.
I am hoping that Illinois could not just be a victory, but a decisive victory for Bernie. I think Hillary's linkage with the enormously unpopular Chicago governor Rahm Emanuel could really hurt Hillary with African American voters where she needs to win big.
Bernie on This Week speaking about Tuesday's primaries
Bernie was on This Week with Stephanopolous this morning. There was the obligatory discussion of the violence and demonstrations at Trump rallies, then a mention of Bernie's big win in Michigan and a question about if he could repeat it on Tuesday. Bernie said that he believed that if there is a large turnout he will do very well in Illinois, Ohio, North Carolina and Missouri. He said Florida is going to be a tough state for him. I presume this is because Florida is a closed primary (no Independents voting) and has an older than average population, which skews towards Hillary. I was pleased that he did not lump my state of North Carolina in with Florida.
"No I won't yield!"
Fantastic rant by Bernie in 1992 against the military industrial complex:
"We're spending $287 billon a year on the military but we don't have a major enemy! I know it hurts your feelings! I know you're upset about it! I know you're hoping and praying that maybe we'll have another war! Maybe somebody will rise up. But it ain't happening! The Soviet Union doesn't exist! The Warsaw Pact is through! Who are you worried about? Iraq? Panama? Who are you worried about? I'll tell you who I'm worried about. I'm worried about our workers who are seeing a declining standard of living! They want to see our industry be rebuilt! That's what they want to see. No more B-2 bombers. No more Star Wars."
Bernie asks Alan Greenspan about Too Big to Fail in 2000
This video is 8 years before the TARP bailout. Starting at 3:25 or so on this video, Bernie points to the near catastrophe from the Fed orchestrated private bailout of a hedge fund called Long Term Capital Management (subject of a great book called "When Genius Failed" in 1998 and asks Alan Greenspan what would happen if an enormous institution like the combination of Citibank and Traveler's Insurance (whose merger was only able to be finalized after Glass Steagall was repealed) was to fail. Greenspan says that such an institution wouldn't be "bailed out", but that an "orderly liquidation" which would wipe out the investments of the shareholders in the institution and impose large losses on the creditors of the institution (neither of which happened) would be better than simply letting them collapse.
Found a couple of stories on the origin of the Trump protest tonight
One is a story from 2 days ago saying "Chicago braces for anti-Donald Trump protest expected to draw 10,000 people". So why were police caught so off guard?
The other is a Facebook page called "Stop Trump" which it appears served as a place to organize and discuss tactics. It says it is a student movement which is consistent with the ages of the people I saw on TV tonight.

And I heard the lying scumbag Trump proclaiming tonight on 2 different networks that they were expecting a crowd of 25,000 supporters tonight without being questioned on that by either journalist that he was talking to. The arena hosting the event has a capacity of 9500. They also let Trump say that there hadn't been any violence at his rallies, despite video to the contrary at several rallies including last night when a 78 year old man punched a black protestor who was being taken out by security.
Anybody watching this Trump fiasco?
A Trump rally tonight in Chicago has been postponed. Coverage now on CNN, MSNBC and Fox. There were a lot of protestors inside, more than the police could control. They announced the postponement, the protestors started cheering, and a lot of shouting and finger pointing and a few skirmishes broke out. They have gotten the people out of the building now and there are big crowds outside the arena.
Really ugly stuff.
Video of Hillary praising Nancy Reagan on HIV/AIDS
Here is the video of her on MSNBC. Hillary didn't just make a little slip. She had a whole phony story to tell. Look at how sincere Hillary is as she's telling it. It's like it really happened.
Her good friend and interviewer, Andrea Mitchell (Mrs. Alan Greenspan) had to know Hillary had stepped in it. Andrea tries to soften up Hillary's claim at the end, just as the clip cuts off by saying "Did the fact that she was, behind the scenes at least, so involved..."
