Regarding Kansas. You'll like this!

I’m currently on an annual wine tasting trip in Walla Walla, Washington with my cousin and two other women. Today, we were at a winery, chatting about the KS decision and that we were feeling hopeful for the first time in a long while. We were sitting at a table next to a young couple and their doggo who were clearly able to overhear our conversation. I locked eyes with the woman and she immediately looked away but then said “I heard you mention the Kansas vote on abortion. We’re from KS. My husband just finished his residency in Obstetrics in Spokane and we’re headed back to KS next month.” I said “I don’t know how you feel about choice but we’re toasting KS today” The young woman said that they were both life long Kansans and were thrilled with the decision. She said that her husband had just landed a job in a clinic on the KS-MO border and he would be welcoming patients in need of reproductive care including abortion to the practice he was joining. Then! The folks at the table on the other side of the young couple all raised their glasses and said “To Kansas!” We all did the same. It was a wonderful, organic moment.

I felt a little bit of hope and positivity when I least expected it.

To Kansas! To hope!

Maybee. Frisbee. All day every day.

She’s so much fun. It’s been really hot here so we’re not hiking as much. We play frisbee in the morning and then a little bit a couple hours later and then again after dinner. This morning we took a run before the sun was up but the bears are out now so we have to be mindful of that. By the time I take her to work with me she’s at least somewhat calm. I love her to bits.

Pottinger is a tool.

Still in the cult. I’ll bet he strokes his CV when he’s alone at night. Toolie McToolerson.

With great cuteness comes no responsibility.

So last night I was hoping to watch Lawrence. Maybee had a game of Frisbee in mind. She won.

Puppy update! 8 month old Maybee took her first swim in a river.

It was a blue bird day here in western Montana. I didn’t think Mabes would jump in and fetch a stick but her big sister is a lab so she’s got a great teacher. Maybee rode on my pontoon boat across the Clearwater River and back a few times….she’s such a great sidekick. I was relieved we didn’t have a bear to deal with today. We were in grizzly country but we had bear spray on us just in case. Perfect Sunday. I love her so much.

Maybee got spayed today.

It was a hard day for her…the vet said she howled unless a tech held her in their lap while she came out of anesthesia. Maybee had a designated staff person with her until I picked her up. The cone of shame is a disaster…she flails like a crazy person if she has to wear it. The t-shirt works way better…it covers her belly so she can’t worry her stitches. I just gave her a pain pill and will take her out to potty before snuggling her into bed with me. So glad this day is behind us.

Experts believe Iris to be around 24 years old. She recently returned to her nest at the mouth of Hellgate Canyon here in Missoula. You can see her 2022 return in the video below.

A halo around the sun coming up this morning.

It’s nothing fancy…just an iPhone pic…but I thought it was lovely to see.

Update on Maybee the border collie. She just turned 5 months old.

She’s a pistol and keeps me running. Now that she has all her shots we are hitting the local trails when it’s not too cold. She’s smaller than any BC I’ve ever had but I don’t mind. Since she goes to work with me every day, being a little smaller is good since I have to lift her into the back of my vehicle. She thinks she belongs on my bed which I kinda don’t like but then she gives me that look and I fold every single time. She’s turned into a frisbee fetching machine. She’s a wonderful friend and I love her to pieces.

Puppy update! Maybee's first big girl hike.

We went up into Pattee Canyon…we have a friend who owns a chunk of property that we’re able to access to run ourselves and our dogs. I can’t take Maybee on public trails until she’s fully vaccinated in about 3 weeks. It was a bluebird day here in western Montana. The kind of day that makes us think spring is close but we know better. The witch of winter has a few more tricks up her sleeve I’m sure. However, Maybee is the BEST girl…she stays close and is such a good listener. I’m considering training her to sniff out antlers. She’s got a great nose.
