Expand the Court

The mantra from every Democrat should be “Expand the Court. The Republicans have blatantly abused the system. Expand the Court”

I get that some people think that’s a fantasy. Guess what? Even six years ago the idea of Donald Trump as a serious Presidential candidate was a fantasy.

In two party politics, one party’s unified party line can become conventional wisdom very quickly.

The Republicans have abused the system. Expand the Court.

The Four Kinds of Trump Supporters

Like many, I’ve spent a fair amount of time wondering why sizable numbers of Americans support the Presidency of a man as transparently unsuited to high office as Donald Trump.

I’ve tried really listening to Trump supporters on this. With VERY few exceptions, just about every one I’ve spoken with fits one of four categories:

1) Affluent cynics who care about nothing except getting their taxes cut. These are often well-educated people who’s entire politics are “I vote my wallet, first, second, and last.”

2) White identity types. “Why is it racist to ask for an NAAWP? Why is it racist for me to want a White History month? Why is it racist for me to love my White ancestry? Why do people hate me when i point out that Adolf Hitler made some valid arguments? Mean liberals are always calling me racist! Waaaaaah!!”

3) Religious fundamentalists : These are the people who claim to represent traditional godly morality, except when Trump pays porn stars for sex.

4) Stupid people : Unwise might be a better description than “stupid.” Not necessarily low IQ, per se - although there’s probably a correlation with that - but the type of willfully stupid people who believe that Bill Gates invented Coronavirus in a lab, protests against police brutality are a “Masonic psyop” and that Trump is our only hope against the Bankers/Illuminati/Secret Fluoridation Conspiracy.

That mostly covers it, as far as I can tell. If anyone here can identify other broad categories of Trump supporters, I’m interested in their thoughts.

When and how did you figure out that American Conservatism was a scam?

I’ve been reading some columns by reformed Republican and former Wall Street Journal and Weekly Standard columnist Max Boot where he urges people to vote a straight Democratic Party ticket this year.

I can relate slightly to Max Boot - I was active in the College Republicans and even had a leadership position on a conservative campus newspaper that spawned the career of one or two of today’s Republican pundits.

It’s a source of embarrassment to me to this day.

I was about twenty when I figured out the GOP is, at least at a national level, a colossal scam which largely operates by harnessing ethnonational and religious resentments in the service of deficit-funded tax cuts geared to benefit the wealthy. This became clear to me back in the 90’s, when members of the LGBT community, not “Globalists”, Latino immigrants, and Muslims, were actively presented by Republicans as subversive, scary forces. I can still remember how heavily opinion pieces about the insidious “gay agenda” were pushed by people who privately admitted to me they could care less about the issue but it was a good way to “scare up” the religious Christian vote.

Nowadays, I try to look at my conservatism as a youthful indiscretion.

When did you realize American Conservatism was a hateful scam?

Maybe the truth really is out there! (New details on Pentagon UFO studies emerge)

Two very interesting, almost science-fiction sounding articles appeared in today’s New York Times about the U.S. Government’s studies of UFO phenomena.

Apparently, a program was begun in 2007 to research UFO’s.

“Hovering 50 feet above the churn was an aircraft of some kind — whitish — that was around 40 feet long and oval in shape. The craft was jumping around erratically, staying over the wave disturbance but not moving in any specific direction, Commander Fravor said. The disturbance looked like frothy waves and foam, as if the water were boiling.”

“For years, the program investigated reports of unidentified flying objects, according to Defense Department officials, interviews with program participants and records obtained by The New York Times. It was run by a military intelligence official, Luis Elizondo, on the fifth floor of the Pentagon’s C Ring, deep within the building’s maze.

The Defense Department has never before acknowledged the existence of the program, which it says it shut down in 2012. But its backers say that, while the Pentagon ended funding for the effort at that time, the program remains in existence. For the past five years, they say, officials with the program have continued to investigate episodes brought to them by service members, while also carrying out their other Defense Department duties.”

Sen. Harry Reid (among others) was involved in the program.

Roy Moore, noted child molestor, says its not over.

Fool.

‘Failed Alabama Senate candidate and alleged sexual predator Roy Moore is not only still refusing to accept his loss to Democrat Doug Jones, he’s trying to raises funds to help discredit the election results. President Trump called for Moore to concede on Friday morning — as has Steve Bannon, reportedly — but Moore sent an email to supporters on Friday assuring them that “the battle is NOT OVER” and asking them to donate to an “election integrity fund.”’

...

‘“My campaign team is busy collecting numerous reported cases of voter fraud and irregularities for the Secretary of State’s office,” Moore told supporters in his email. He said he needed another $75,000 to aid in the effort, since his campaign is now out of money. “Time is running out for conservatives to guarantee the integrity of this election,” the email continued, citing the looming reporting deadline for turning over the evidence.’

Sanity wins - by one percent.

Sanity wins by a one percent margin.

Politically, this is GREAT news. Celebration is in order, and this will surely rally our base to huge victories in 2018.

At a human level, I’m a bit disappointed that a child molester kept it so close. WTF is wrong with so many Alabama and national Republicans?
