Soph0571's JournalThe Far Right Is Celebrating the Taliban Takeover of Afghanistan
-----
To be honest, the Taliban is epic, said a popular white-nationalist commentator on Telegram, in a post viewed over 2,000 times. The US had to invade in the early 2000s and stay over 20 years, spending $1 trillion dollars, and dozens of American lives to hold them back. As soon as we left, the Taliban took over the whole country in like 12 hours. LMAO.

Emphasis mine
Of course they are celebrating - right wing theocracy wannabees always love to see the subjugation of others through violence. Lets face it - if you had to put a piece of paper between GOP and Taliban on certain Policy Platforms... hhhhmmm
No reproductive health services for women
Gay marriage illegal
Unregulated access to guns
Religious Courts / Judges to administer justice
No infrastructure investment
Compulsory religious classes in schools
No separation of church and state
Oh, and,
Cheering as their supporters storm the Capital.
Graphic mine
Like two peas in a pod. Heh.
This response to deadly incel attack in the UK last week is beyond...
What the actual...
Stop angry young women hating men from killing women they have been radicalised to hate, by giving them women to rape instead...
Yep we have these wingnuts in the UK too...
Good grief.
Family sues Capitol riot suspect accused of attacking DC police officer
On Friday, August 13, attorney David Weber filed the lawsuit with the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. on behalf of the family of the late Officer Jeffrey Smith, according to The Hill. The lawsuit accuses the suspect, only identified as John Doe, of striking Smith with "cane or crowbar."
"Officer Smith was in a particularly vulnerable situation because his face shield was up (leaving his face and eyes exposed)," reads the lawsuit.
The lawsuit also claims the suspects "targeted Officer Smith because his visor was in the upright position, making him vulnerable to this brutal and vicious attack."

Not sure how they will prove causation, but there needs to be be of this.
"It's like my identity is about to be scrubbed out."
As Kabul is about to fall...
Taliban Spokesman Shaheen says: We will respect rights of women...our policy is that women will have access to education and work, to wear the hijab.
He restated the Talibans position that no one should leave the country...we need all the talents and capacity, we need all of us to stay in the country and participate.
He is lying. Girls and women are about to go through a world of pain. I would be heading to the border at speed right now if I was an Afghani. And the US and the UK had better make sure they are prepared for the waves of asylum seekers which will land because of the troop withdrawal and the fallout of it.
Afghan womens defiance and despair: I never thought Id have to wear a burqa. My identity will be lost
My mother says we should buy a burqa. My parents are afraid of the Taliban. My mother thinks that one of the ways she can protect her daughters is to make them wear the burqa, she says.
But we have no burqa in our home, and I have no intention of getting one. I dont want to hide behind a curtain-like cloth. If I wear the burqa, it means that I have accepted the Talibans government. I have given them the right to control me. Wearing a chador is the beginning of my sentence as a prisoner in my house. Im afraid of losing the accomplishments I fought for so hard.

Lets be honest - when the coalition forces went into Afghanistan it was not anything to do with the rights of women and girls, but a happy by-product has been the opening up of freedoms in a way that cannot be imagined under Taliban rule. We are already reading reports of women being sent home from work and university. A new dark age is emerging at speed.
Splendid heckle!
https://twitter.com/MarieAnnUK/status/1426698846474838020Certainly one of the most accurate heckles ever! Brilliant
Next level dissonance. I have no words, except I do.
Empire was altruistic? Are you kidding me? The generational trauma, harm and scars that the Empire has caused across the world is countless. The genocides, the slavery, the stealing of resources and people, the othering of people in their own frigging countries. I know we are currently living through a time when post Brexit English nationalism is trying to impose their own version of English exceptionalism on the rest of us, but this really takes the biscuit. We went out and enslaved huge swathes of the world to help them? this is so hugely insulting to those nations who still struggle today to recover from the ordeals inflicted on them by Empire. When will this horror surrounding us ever end?
Altruistic my arse...
Cops whose false testimony sent Black man to prison for 25 years are slapped with criminal charges
Manuel Santiago, Martin Devlin and Frank Jastrzembski helped with the 1993 conviction of Anthony Wright, who has since been exonerated by DNA evidence. In a retrial decades later, the trio repeated their false claims.
After hearing testimony from key witnesses and reviewing evidence, the Grand Jury recommended that Santiago, Devlin, and Jastrzembski be held accountable for lying under oath to condemn an innocent man and cover up their wrongdoing, and for perverting the integrity of law, Krasner said Friday.
---
Wright was convicted in 1993 based on his coerced confession and the clothes that Jastrzembski falsely claimed he found. But in 2014, The Innocence Project eventually got Wrights conviction overturned using DNA evidence, which linked a man named Robert Byrd to the crime. Byrd was no longer alive when the new evidence was uncovered. But despite Wrights clear innocence, the Philadelphia District Attorneys office decided to try Wright again in 2016, where Santiago, Devlin, and Jastrzembski testified falsely under oath about both the evidence used to convict Wright and their knowledge of the DNA evidence that ultimately exonerated him, according to the grand jury presentment.

Emphasis mine
I know justice cannot be about retribution and revenge, but if it where they should be sentenced to the exact number of days Mr Wright was forced to endure in the prison system based on their rank corruption and lack of any decency - doubling down on their lines at the second trial? Knowing that this could lead to them once again seeing the same innocent man convicted yet again in a crime he did not commit. It is good that there are some repercussions for this behaviour in play here. We need to see more of this.
The 'it's not terror related because he's white thing' (&violence against women motive is 'shrugs')
Incel goes on a violent rampage resulting in the deaths of 6 in Plymouth. Most deadly shooting event in UK for 11 years. His internet footprint is all about misogyny and violence and yet his actions are not terrorism, according to the police... 👀
Lone wolf narrative... cause male pale and stale cannot be perceived as a terrorist by the patriarchy. But the link between terrorism and male violence towards women must not be allowed to be overlooked, again.

Text messages show Matt Gaetz's 'wingman' arranging meetings involving the congressman, women...
and drugs"I have a friend flying in and we are trying to make plans for tonight. What are your plans for later." Greenberg reportedly wrote to the woman, referring to Gaetz. "And how much of an allowance will you be requiring "
The woman responded by saying she had "a friend who introduced (her) to the website that (she) could bring," adding that she typically charges "$400 per meet."
Greenberg then sent the woman a photo of Gaetz taking a selfie with students at Pea Ridge Elementary and wrote, "My friend," ABC News reports.
"Oooh my friend thinks he's really cute!" the woman responded.
Greenberg told the woman that Gaetz was "down here only for the day," and that "we work and and play hard."

How is he still in a job. Apart from anything else his utter lack of judgement should preclude him from getting elected to run a lemonade stand, never mind being a law maker
