A lawsuit has been filed against a Capitol riot suspect on behalf of a police officer who claimed his own life shortly after the insurrectionist on the U.S. Capitol.

On Friday, August 13, attorney David Weber filed the lawsuit with the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. on behalf of the family of the late Officer Jeffrey Smith, according to The Hill. The lawsuit accuses the suspect, only identified as John Doe, of striking Smith with "cane or crowbar."

"Officer Smith was in a particularly vulnerable situation because his face shield was up (leaving his face and eyes exposed)," reads the lawsuit.

The lawsuit also claims the suspects "targeted Officer Smith because his visor was in the upright position, making him vulnerable to this brutal and vicious attack."

In some households, the burqa has sparked divisive inter-generational conflicts. The parents of 26-year-old Habiba are begging her and her sisters to get a burqa before the Taliban enter the city, but she is resisting.

This Friday, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner announced that charges have been filed against three former homicide detectives whose false statements contributed to the 25-year imprisonment of an innocent man over a rape and murder charges, HuffPost reports.

Manuel Santiago, Martin Devlin and Frank Jastrzembski helped with the 1993 conviction of Anthony Wright, who has since been exonerated by DNA evidence. In a retrial decades later, the trio repeated their false claims.

“After hearing testimony from key witnesses and reviewing evidence, the Grand Jury recommended that Santiago, Devlin, and Jastrzembski be held accountable for lying under oath to condemn an innocent man and cover up their wrongdoing, and for perverting the integrity of law,” Krasner said Friday.

Wright was convicted in 1993 based on his coerced confession and the clothes that Jastrzembski falsely claimed he found. But in 2014, The Innocence Project eventually got Wright’s conviction overturned using DNA evidence, which linked a man named Robert Byrd to the crime. Byrd was no longer alive when the new evidence was uncovered. But despite Wright’s clear innocence, the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office decided to try Wright again in 2016, where Santiago, Devlin, and Jastrzembski “testified falsely under oath about both the evidence used to convict Wright and their knowledge of the DNA evidence that ultimately exonerated him,” according to the grand jury presentment.

In one of the text message exchanges obtained by the network, from 2018, Greenberg appeared to arrange payment for a woman and ask whether she took drugs.

"I have a friend flying in and we are trying to make plans for tonight. What are your plans for later." Greenberg reportedly wrote to the woman, referring to Gaetz. "And how much of an allowance will you be requiring "

The woman responded by saying she had "a friend who introduced (her) to the website that (she) could bring," adding that she typically charges "$400 per meet."

Greenberg then sent the woman a photo of Gaetz taking a selfie with students at Pea Ridge Elementary and wrote, "My friend," ABC News reports.

"Oooh my friend thinks he's really cute!" the woman responded.

Greenberg told the woman that Gaetz was "down here only for the day," and that "we work and and play hard."
