The Priory Church of St Bartholomew the Great, sometimes abbreviated to Great St Bart's, is a mediaeval church in the Church of England's Diocese of London located in Smithfield within the City of London. The building was founded as an Augustinian priory in 1123. During the sacking of all things Catholic in the reformation, the Lady Capel was hived off from the church and made into commercial premises. During the 18th Century this room was a printers workshop and in 1725 Benjamin Franklin was employed there while residing around the corner on Little Britain. During his time working there he wrote A Dissertation on Liberty and Necessity, Pleasure and Pain.
I stumbled across this church today cause I had a meeting in the area then had a teams in their graveyard, where the graves are older than Benjamin Franklin and even America! I just thought with the 4th July weekend happening in the immediate for all my lovely DUers across the pond that this was cool.
Lets not talk about how the people on my teams meeting were talking about how I chose a graveyard rather than a coffee shop for my teams.
Today I stood where Benjamin Franklin learnt his trade

This.
Really does not have the moral flex they think it does
https://twitter.com/PennyRed/status/1540990048241422337A roomful of religious extremists and conservative men credibly accused of historical sexual violence found a couple of loopholes in a document written by and for white male slaveowners centuries ago is not, in fact, a flawless moral argument for forcing someone to give birth.
This.

Very tidy summing up of how SCOTUS has been hijacked by a far right cult of QQQ.

Interesting analysis from Marr. Tactical voting has to be the key in the next GE of course. Last para is very interesting - who could it be? I mean Johnson says he is going to lead the country into the 2030's. I think he is a delusional bubble on that point - but having surrounded himself with sycophantic no mark idiots there is no Heseltine waiting in the wings, is there? When the men with the guns rock up to his office to tell him to do one, who would we be left with as leader of the Tories? Maybe they will just wait it all out, get a drubbing at the next general and get rid of him then? give the successor time to rebuild the reputation of the party?
Who in the cabinet has the courage to challenge Boris Johnson?
Across the country there is a wide spread of anti-Conservative activism, ranging from revitalised leftist trade unions to genteel liberal returners. Beyond the lets get rid of this lot consensus, nobody could hold such a disparate coalition together. I conclude that an unspoken, informal pact between the opposition parties will be central to the next election, and then that a coalition is likely after it.
How Starmer and Davey handle themselves will be crucial. It will be tricky. The Conservatives will warn, loudly and repeatedly, about cynical deals followed by chaos. Admittedly, right at the moment, its not a very easy argument for them to make, but it will be an uneasy time for the opposition parties. The obvious, ruthless thing for a coalition to do would be to introduce electoral reform and dish Conservative England. But nobody will say this out loud indeed, it will be denied thrice and three times thrice. And any anti-Tory deal which granted the SNP the promise of a second Scottish independence referendum in the short term would be incendiary.
So, after a brief jig of delight at what the voters of Tiverton and Wakefield have done, the hardest strategic thinking now must be on the left.
---
What has really been lacking all along is a Michael Heseltine figure, in the sense of a major player prepared to stand up publicly and offer themselves to the Tories as an alternative to a seemingly tough and determined leader. Its not about rules. Its about momentum. This can only be done by somebody with the self-confidence, daring and philosophical grounding to say to the party: Hes no good. You know it. I can do better. Come here. Follow me. Does such a person exist?

KKK being KKKrazy: Now do Plessy vs Ferguson/Brown vs Board of Education.
That they would be emboldened right now is not a surprise. How bold they are actually being, kinda. 40 year project to take over SCOTUS and this is just the start.

Sen Cornyn says out loud what other Republicans whisper to each other. The
@GOP
wants to overturn Brown vs. Board of Education & resurrect the 1800s doctrine of separate but equal to re-establish racial segregation laws that inherently imply Blacks are inferior.

Coercing anyone into childbirth contrary to their will is an utter abuse and violation of bodily autonomy and consent. This sits at the very heart of misogyny. Its the moral counterpart to rape. It shatters the foundations of womens hard fought and hard won freedoms.
Thats the whole point with these far right religious theocratic stealers of progress.
Separation of church and state my arse .
I thought the whole point of America was that this couldn't happen.
