TheProle's JournalCDC no longer recommends universal masking in health facilities
The agency quietly issued the updates as part of an overhaul to its infection control guidance for health workers published late Friday afternoon. It marks a major departure from the agencys previous recommendation for universal masking.
Updates were made to reflect the high levels of vaccine-and infection-induced immunity and the availability of effective treatments and prevention tools, the CDCs new guidance says.
Now, the CDC says facilities in regions without high transmission can choose not to require all doctors, patients, and visitors to mask. Transmission is different from the community levels CDC uses to guide non-health care settings.

Two arrested after fight breaks out at protest outside Squad event in Somerville
The Boston Herald reported that the fight broke out outside the event just after 4 p.m.
When officers arrived on scene, Munns said, witnesses told them there was a verbal dispute between two men who were part of a protest outside the event led by her opponent, Republican Donnie Palmer, and four other men. The heated exchange turned into a fistfight.
Two different videos of the fight have been posted to Twitter. One shows the moments before the fight and then a flurry of punches. The other shows several men throwing punches and trying to get one man off another, ending with a shot of a man on the ground who looks like he has suffered injuries.
On Twitter, Palmer has claimed that the fight began because one of the people who joined in his protest was attacked by the four men, who he says were sent by some of Pressleys staff. His claims have yet to be affirmed or denied by police or other officials.
Pressleys campaign told The Boston Globe in a statement Sunday that the campaign was not involved in the fight.

Biden and Newsom: Slow Motion Switcheroo?

Newsom's challenges to debate DeSantis, billboards in Texas, etc. all seem part of a concerted effort to raise his national profile, but how much of it is organic and how much is orchestrated?
Given the two quotes above, it may be time to come to terms with what a Biden retirement and a Newsom run may look like.
UFOs Over Ukraine
Ukraines airspace has been busy this yearthats the nature of war. But scientists in the country are looking to the skies and seeing something they didnt expect: An inordinate number of UFOs, according to a new preprint paper published by Kyivs Main Astronomical Observatory in coordination with the countrys National Academy of Science.
The paper does not specifically address the war, but in the United States, the Pentagon has long hinted, speculated, and warned that some UFOs could be advanced technology from foreign militaries, specifically China and Russia (though it hasnt really given any evidence this is actually the case). The Ukraine paper is particularly notable because it not only shows that science has continued to occur during the war, but also explains that there have been a lot of sightings.
We see them everywhere, the research said. We observe a significant number of objects whose nature is not clear.
The paper is titled Unidentified aerial phenomena I. Observations of events come from observations made at NAS Main Astronomical Observatory in Kyiv and a village south of Kyiv called Vinarivka. According to the papers authors, the observatories took on the job of hunting for UFOs as an independent project because of the enthusiasm around the subject.

Christians could make up less than half of the U.S. population within a few decades
What if Christians keep leaving religion at the same rate observed in recent years? What if the pace of religious switching continues to accelerate? What if switching were to stop, but other demographic trends such as migration, births and deaths were to continue at current rates? To help answer such questions, Pew Research Center has modeled several hypothetical scenarios describing how the U.S. religious landscape might change over the next half century.
The Center estimates that in 2020, about 64% of Americans, including children, were Christian. People who are religiously unaffiliated, sometimes called religious nones, accounted for 30% of the U.S. population. Adherents of all other religions including Jews, Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists totaled about 6%.1
Depending on whether religious switching continues at recent rates, speeds up or stops entirely, the projections show Christians of all ages shrinking from 64% to between a little more than half (54%) and just above one-third (35%) of all Americans by 2070. Over that same period, nones would rise from the current 30% to somewhere between 34% and 52% of the U.S. population.

Benched Brooklyn judge's alleged homophobic, racist remarks preceded removal from the bench
An affidavit from state Chief Administrative Judge Lawrence Marks laid bare the plethora of hateful remarks Judge Harriet Thompson allegedly said in the courthouse in the presence of United Court System personnel.
The fiery words preceded her abrupt removal from her position in December.
I hate these gay white men, shes quoted as saying in the document, while later declaring gay racist f-----s ... trying to ruin me and get me ... Being gay is an abomination to mankind. The Holy Ghost (is) going to get them.

She seems nice. Other quotes:
- (On people with Hispanic-sounding names): They have a deceitful trait that goes way back to Biblical times. The men are always stealing, and the women are no better. They lie, steal and use their vaginas for anything they want.
- She accused her female colleagues of trading sexual favors for their seats on the bench, labeling one woman as part of that group of hos and describing another Black judge as a house n----r and puppet for the white man, according to the court papers.
- In a particularly callous comment, Thompson said a fellow judge got what she deserved when diagnosed with early onset Alzheimers disease, the court papers allege. The judge also declared a state court worker was likely a prostitute, and suggested her boyfriend is pimping her.

New York declares state of emergency over polio to boost vaccination rate
Poliovirus has now been detected in sewage samples from four counties in the New York metropolitan area as well as the city itself. The counties include Rockland, Orange, Sullivan and now Nassau.
The samples tested positive for types of poliovirus that can cause paralysis in humans, according to state health officials.
New York began wastewater surveillance after an unvaccinated adult caught polio in Rockland County in July and suffered from paralysis, the first known infection in the U.S. in nearly a decade.
