And now, Ben Carson is appointed to HUD.

Each passing hour brings word of yet another reason to question our national sanity. It’s becoming ever more clear that nothing good is forthcoming from the new administration. With each announced appointee Trump continues to erase even the smallest glimmer of hope that something beneficial might be coming our way. In a darkly comedic way, every office is to be held by those who oppose the foundational purposes of those offices. Republicans are revealing that their greater investment is in holding power, with little regard for the consequences of how they choose to wield that power. For the first time in our history millions of American citizens are genuinely terrified that the new president and a complicit Congress will follow through on their “promises”. And Republicans see in this a reason to gleefully celebrate their party’s approaching stranglehold on the devices of governance. Truly, when the loser wins, the nation loses.

Grandma was quite fond of reminding us, “If you can’t say something nice,
don’t say anything at all.” And Mom was never a cusser, she’d learned well
at Grandma’s knee. These days I’m having a little trouble following that
instruction. There are so many conversations about the president-elect and
I try to participate in the lady-like fashion in which I was raised,
but my thesaurus has yet to cough up an adequate synonym for
‘motherfuckingcocksuckingbuttstupidasshole’. Maybe I’ll get a bigger thesaurus
at the bookstore next week. Or after the holidays. Or July.
