Beatlelvr's JournalOkay, I have a stupid question about Russia's attack
Why the slow convoy heading towards Ukraine's large cities? And a bombing here and there? Not that I advocate for this but, why didn't they just use their airforce and bomb the hell out of Ukraine? Did Putin think the world would consider THAT a bridge too far? So he's doing it slowly and not a flat out assault to end all assaults? Is he trying to minimize the damage because he wants his newly acquired country to not be a bombed out landscape?
We are bringing mom home today
We put mom (98) into a board and care home 5 weeks ago. I have been her live-in caregiver since 2011. Just in last 3 years or so has she needed alot of care. Got to the point I had to lift her all the time, so family decided something needed to change. She is cognizant, knew I would probably hurt myself if we continued on that path. I visit every day, and she is miserable! We found a live-in caregiver and are moving her back home tomorrow. Hospice is providing hospital bed. I had to buy a twin bed for the caregiver because she sleeps in same room as patient. I have loved my "freedom" but we don't want her to be unhappy.
Sorry this is so long. It has been a journey I can tell you.
Wow, was not aware of rules.
Sorry I didn't have my coffee discussion in Lounge.
But thanks for all the suggestions! I hate Costco because of crowds. I like the suggestion to use their website.
Thanks so much everyone.
Favorite coffee?
Hoping to get some coffee recommendations Have been drinking Kirkland Colombia Supremo for years, but I just ran out. I just can't handle Costco anymore, so have been trying some from supermarket. Today I tried Peet's dark roast Italian...pretty tasteless. Bought Peet's med.
roast Brazil, single origin for tomorrow.
Any suggestions? Either whole bean or ground is okay. Thanks
So we took mom to a board and care facility yesterday
She had been resigned to it...everytime I had to lift her in and out of bed or the toilet or her recliner she would say, how is your back? I don't want you to hurt yourself. My family was there settling her in and let me say, the caregivers there are wonderful. But she called me at 4:20 to come back. I stayed until after Jeopardy, 7:30. She said she wanted to go home but knew she couldn't. This is hard. Going back today and everyday from here on.
Just a side note: she loves Rachel Maddow (she's 98!) so I looked for it on their small tv in her room. They have Spectrum and do NOT have MSNBC. They have FOX. NEWSNATION AND OANN though!
Mom's 98 and not doing well
I'm her live in caregiver. Just in 10 days or so she's gone down physically and cognitively (is that a word?). Had a fall and landed on her butt, now has bad back pain. Before I got her out of bed she thought she was in a crowd and asking for my dad (passed in 88). We just got hospice who are great but no doctor visit yet. Thank goodness I have a supportive family. We are leaning towards a board and care facility, and hospice is researching for us.
Anyone have experience with a loved one in board and care? Please tell me it's a good thing.
Thank you for any suggestions/words of wisdom.

Key lime pie
Help! Want to make key lime pie for Christmas and did a trial run today. Found a couple recipes online. Made the one with 2 cans condensed milk, 4 egg yokes, 1 cup fresh juice, graham cracker crust. OMG way too rich and way too tart. Question: can I use 1 can condensed milk and something else like evaporated milk or regular milk? Would I have to use more eggs?
The other recipe called for 1 can condensed milk, 5 yolks and 2/3 cup juice. I didn't think that would be enough filling.
Suggestions please, or maybe your foolproof recipe? Thanks so much.
I have an idea about these horrible weather incidents
Watching the vast devastation brought wirh tornados and other disasters that come with little warning, I'm wondering...aren't there people on constant weather watch around the country? Are they alerted to these situations before the general public? And if so, couldn't there be a vast siren system put into place? Maybe a siren station/pole every 200 yards (or whatever) in areas subject to tornados, flooding, hurricanes, fires. (Sounds like most of the country now.) This would be life saving especially when these disasters come at night? Or is that a stupid idea?
Okay, this makes me fucking nuts
On CNN just now Alyson Camerota asked one of the leading voices about the vaccination record in US, well, Biden promised he would get rid of the virus, so hasn't he failed at that? HOW CAN HE GET RID OF IT (OR ANY OTHER COUNTRY FOR THAT MATTER) WHEN THERE ARE MILLIONS OF JUST PLAIN IDIOTS OUT THERE WHO WON'T TAKE THE VACCINE, FOR ALL THEIR STUPID REASONS? What can he do....have squads of medical personnel hold them down and forcibly give them a shot? We are never getting rid of it. Either that, or just wait until all those idiots fall ill and die.
I was supposed to start my Christmas Markets of Germany, Switzerland and Austria trip yesterday, but Austria is on lockdown so they cancelled the whole trip.
Who knows when it will be available again, next year? That's what I said last year. I realize other folks have more dire situations, but it just fries my cookies. I'm my mother's caregiver, and I NEEDED that trip!
End of rant.
