Anyone roast their own coffee here?

Got a coffee roaster for Christmas (does about 5 ounces of beans at a shot) and have done about 3-4 pounds so far. Just looking to compare notes as I learn about this art.

Tried Mac and Cheese in the Instant Pot last night

It was pretty tasty (recipe)

It was nicely creamy. I used the recommended brown rice pasta brand and I was very impressed. Easily the best gluten free pasta I've had (most is just crap).

Excited I found this group!--Anyone successfully made brioche in a bread machine?

I'm in the mood for some brioche french toast and we don't have a bakery near us that makes a respectable one. Panera brioche buns is the closest I can find (which are pretty good, actually).

So, I'm thinking of giving it a shot. We have a Zoji bread maker, so I'm confident in IT'S ability. Saw a couple recipes, but they look like a lot could go wrong. Any one have success?

Why the dearth of atheist politicians?

Here is what we know from surveys:
1. at least 10% of the population is atheist/agnostic
2. there is a strong correlation between level of education and not believing in god (calm down, I'm not arguing causation)

Given that there are upwards of 600 people in political positions in Washington DC, it would seem statistically that 60 of them would be atheists. And there should be more given the education levels of those people.

Yet there are fewer than a handful that openly identify as atheist. Why? I think it is political suicide to indicate that one is an atheist. So those that are (and there HAS to be that there are some) have to pass as believers. How does that add to the "see, religious people do great things" when that person may not actually be religious but just need to say they are to do the job they do?

Anyone making the move to trades over individual comics?

I'm starting to move that way. I'm going to have a few titles where I want the individual comics because I want to keep up with the story faster than the trades and because I really like the comic (Walking Dead, Thor). Additionally, I will grab some first issues of what seems to be hot to see if I like it enough to get the trades and in case it takes off.

But it just seems like the trades are a better deal and easier to store.

Or am I being crazy?

Feel the Christian Love on this Billboard

But, yeah, "Fake News" billboards are the problem.

12-year-old rape victim told to 'turn the other cheek' as Christian school refused to report...

A 12-year-old rape victim was told by the headmaster of a Christian school "to turn the other cheek" and that "everything in God's kingdom happens for a reason", lawsuit files alledge.

The school is being accused of covering up repeated sexual assaults against the boy, downplaying the attacks and refusing to report a rape in a lawsuit that is seeking at least $30m (£23m) in damages.

The mother of the boy, who attends Brentwood Academy, a prestigious private school in Williamson County in Tennessee, filed the lawsuit in which she also accuses four eight-grade students, then 14 and 15-years-old, of having repeatedly sexually abused her son when he was in the sixth grade in 2014/15.

...

When John Doe talked about the incident to the school headmaster Curtis H Masters, he allegedly told him he needed to "turn the other cheek and that "everything in God's kingdom happens for a reason".

This is just sickening. And, for the record, I don't see much difference between this usage of "happens for a reason" and all the other bullshit times it gets used. Oh, that little girl had to die a horrible death because god had a reason. Fuck that.

Cut the cord a couple months ago. Any hints about watching NFL games?

Glad we cut the cord. We are currently using Playstation Vue and like it (Amazon Fire Sticks are awesome). We are doing a month of HBO (free for the 3rd year in a row) now to watch Game of Thrones. Even if we decide to do a month for $15 somewhere along the line, it is still so much cheaper than what we were paying for DirectTV.

Anyway, the only thing I don't think I can get is NFL games. I would like to see them live. I live in the Packer region but am a life-long Vikings fan, so live TV would be good (don't have the antennae to do that right now) but someplace that streams other games would be better. Worst case scenario I go to a bar. I wish the NFL would get their shit together and let us buy all of a team's games for a season. Hell, I'd pay $70 for that. Maybe more.

Guess I'm supposed to introduce myself.

Hi!

Just a dude in the midwest who's been reading some of the stuff on here since we shifted to Idiocracy with our new election. Decided it was time to jump into the fray. I'm in the middle of re-reading the Dark Tower series before the movie comes out next month, hence the username.

Anyway, cool site.
