No less than Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), whose 2016 primary campaign arguably mainstreamed Medicare for All among Democrats, also backed the idea of Congress shoring up the ACA rather than focusing all its energies on enacting single-payer.
Other progressives ― like the lead author of a yet-to-be-released Medicare for All bill, Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) ― said Wednesday that it wasnt contradictory in any way to support strengthening the ACA while still pushing for a transformation of the health care system to universal coverage.
I told the speaker ― and I said in caucus yesterday ― we are completely united, as Ive said for a while, on shoring up the ACA. Like, that cannot wait, Jayapal said.
Anybody know if Beto has evolved on this issue? I hope so because I like him.
What do you guys think? I'm on the fence with the article's conclusions.
We understand that black women within the Democratic Party have significant influence, Shropshire said. But, she added, Bidens team should be wary of toying with Abrams future in the press before she makes her own decision, just like they should be wary of assuming black womens vote can be co-opted in some way.
In making such an assertion, youre also taking for granted the self-determination of black women, Shropshire said, and black women within the Democratic Party.
It says a lot about her leadership and the passion that she has tapped into across the country, said Kimberly Peeler-Allen, the co-founder of Higher Heights, an organization dedicated to getting black women involved in politics.
But, she added, it is interesting that before she has even decided what she is doing, he has decided what he wants her to do.
For that reason, Democratic strategists and black organizers expressed skepticism about why a rising star like Abrams would want to hitch her wagon to Biden so early, even if he currently leads in national polls. Yvette Simpson, the chief executive of Democracy for America, a progressive political action committee that supported Abrams for governor before she even entered the Georgia race, said Biden seems to have more to gain at this stage.
I can see the benefit of Joe Biden selecting a Stacey Abrams, Simpson said. What I cant quite figure out at this stage is what the benefit is to Stacey Abrams.
For years, the economic commentariat has enjoyed a running joke: Stephen Moore.
Moore, you see, has made a career of advancing various right-wing political priorities by dressing up as an economist and saying things about money and numbers in print and on TV. Unfortunately, almost nothing he says is true.
Moore is so bad that an editor at the Kansas City Star once refused to run literally anything he ever wrote, because a piece Moore had previously published in the paper was so littered with basic factual errors. Hes a living embodiment of the worst elements of the economics profession ― a man who doesnt care about the truth, abuses statistics, makes outlandish predictions, smears his opponents and never pays any professional price.
She's the best!
Won't come as a shock to anyone but it is chilling to hear it confirmed by one of our nominees that it's still going on.
This is great news! Dems need to take back Wisconsin and they are definitely feeling the Bern!!!
For taking a stand against this powerful lobbying group and it's support of the Trump loving, right-wing Netanyahu government.
