Of course, it has been taken over by rightwingnutjobs. Climate deniers, anti-vaxxers, Biden haters, trump lovers.. They bend every community discussion into uncharted, weird territory.
Increased car prowls? Biden's fault. Gas prices falling? trump's policies worked in the long run.
Etc... ad nauseam.
Today, I posted trump's cheery Christmas message, with no comment, and cut comments off so there wouldn't be a back-and-forth, divisive bunch of posts.
Nextdoor deleted it because it was "disrespectful". No shit. I'm appealing, pointing out that I was not being disrespectful, that I posted the actual message, and that I also posted Biden's Christmas message....with no comments and cut off comments.
Those fuckers want to stifle anything that doesn't fit their narrative.
Speculation... what would have happened if trump had admitted defeat?
Perhaps he'd be in a stronger position today. After all, the whole insurrection thing - and court cases related to it - isn't grabbing many new votes from the Undecideds (whatever that is).
The NY case could be passed off as political, like trump is doing now, but the real shitstorm could have been avoided.
trump could pose as a narrowly defeated candidate who is the answer to America's hope, instead of a bitter loser.
This fits with what I've said all along... trump would lie even if the truth could save him.
Warming is a huge plot, and only the skeptical few know the Truth.
I'm on "Next Door" to keep track of what's going on locally. Of course, it's infested with rightwingnutjobs. I usually just ignore them.... too busy to bother...but one rant about how warming is a hoax caught my attention, and I started thinking that HERE is our real problem. Stupidity alone is not a complete explanation. Science denial added to paranoia may kill us yet. Climate change...or the next pandemic... and we are toast.

Can I get some car advice??
I'm thinking of getting a 2024 Chevy Equinox EV. Range 300 miles. About $32K .. with a $7500 Fed tax credit and a $2K rebate from my state. No state sales tax.
I like the whole EV concept.
We don't drive long distances much any more...maybe a few trips every year, so that's not a problem.
My other alternative is a Plug-in Prius hybrid. We've had two Prius since 2004, and we love them. The
good part is that it has about 30 miles range on electric, and then the gas engine cuts in. I'd get the advantages of both EV and hybrid.
The down side is that the Prius gets no Fed tax credit and a lower state rebate.
I also wonder about adding the gas-engine complications.... water, oil, drivetrain...
Any advice out there in DU-land?

I changed out the old toilet in the master bath. I ordered one from a Big Box store. Nice unit. One of their best sellers.
I noticed.. there on the box...that it says it can flush 7 billiard balls in one flush!!!! It's also got "Stealth Technology".
My god.... there must be a LOT of people not getting enough fiber in this country for that to be a selling point on a toilet.
trump has said he hates the modern toilets that you have to flush several times. I know he's leading the Fascist Renewal, but is he also leading some kind of Shitter Revolution??
I'm depressed as hell..
I read the back-and-forth about Israel/Palestine - here and everywhere - and I get more and more depressed. Not as depressed as the people in that area, of course, but...
I feel helpless. How can I support any group that commits atrocities? How can I hate any group that has suffered so many innocent casualties? Hate.... that's what it's all about, right?
Notice that I'm not naming names.
How can I root for victory in a conflict with no end in sight...ever... until either side wipes out the other?
There's lots of DUers arguing about polls that show Biden even with trump or actually behind him...
...and painting some pretty gloomy pictures about what happens if trump wins.
I don't think that will happen, after all, there's a lot of water to flow under the bridge in the next year, and this year is going to be hell for trump.
Instead, I think we'd better start thinking about what happens after trump loses. His cult will never accept that he lost.. no matter the margin. They will not take that loss like normal people.
What happens then? We can all lose this country whether trump wins or loses.

Ukraine has shown that a big, powerful army is vulnerable to unconventional weapons in the hands of a smaller force.
